Botany Pots is a mod for Fabric, NeoForge, Quilt and Forge that adds the Botany Pot, a block that grows crops and doubles as decoration. Harvesting replants the seed automatically, which makes farming certain crops far easier. It is required on both sides, so players and the host must run it.

How the pot works
Craft a pot, then pick a soil and a crop. Many soils exist and some crops need a specific one: wheat grows in dirt, nether wart in soul sand. Right click the pot with the soil, then the seed. Growth takes a while, and bone meal or other fertilizers speed it up. Right click a grown crop to harvest it and replant in one action. Sneak and right click with an empty hand to take items out, or simply break the block.
- Harvesting automatically replants the seed.
- A hopper upgrade lets the pot harvest itself and pass items to a chest or any block with an inventory.
- Seventeen colors for the pot.
- Datapack support for new crops, soils and fertilizers.
- CraftTweaker support to remove, modify or add crops, soils and fertilizers.
Datapacks and mod support
Crops, soils and fertilizers are defined in plain json files, so pack authors and hosts can add their own through a datapack. Players can also share datapacks that widen mod support. Scripters can use CraftTweaker for the same job. Built-in support covers Biomes O' Plenty (15 crops, 3 soils), Botania (32 crops, 7 soils, 1 fertilizer), Mystical Agriculture (43 crops, 5 soils, 1 fertilizer), Harvestcraft (78 crops) and Simple Farming (34 crops), plus smaller sets for Buzzier Bees, Metal Bushes, Quark, Snad and others. The wiki covers the technical details.
Installation
- 1.Install the loader that matches the mod file you pick, for the same game release.
- 2.Put the Botany Pots file and every required library in the mods folder, starting with Bookshelf.
- 3.Repeat on the host so both sides run the same files, then launch with the loader's profile.
Questions about Botany Pots.
4 questions
How do I grow crops in a Botany Pot?
Craft the pot, right click it with a soil block, then right click with a seed. Wheat uses dirt and nether wart uses soul sand. Bone meal speeds growth. When the crop is ready, right click to harvest it and the seed is replanted automatically.
Can a Botany Pot harvest crops by itself?
Yes, with the hopper upgrade. The pot harvests on its own and moves the items into a chest or another block that has an inventory. Without the upgrade you right click each pot to harvest it by hand.
Does Botany Pots work on multiplayer?
Yes, but it is required on both sides. The host and every player need the mod and its libraries installed. A host without it will not work with players who have it. Each loader's build lists its own required libraries, so check the loader you pick.
Can I add custom crops or soils to Botany Pots?
Yes. Crops, soils and fertilizers are defined in json files that you can ship in a datapack. CraftTweaker scripts can also remove, modify or add them. The wiki explains the file format and where to get help.
