CraftTweaker is a Minecraft Java mod that lets modpacks and servers customize the game. You change recipes, script events, add commands and alter item properties. It ships for Fabric (1.17.1 to 1.21.1), NeoForge (1.20.2 to 1.21.1) and Forge (1.12.2 to 1.20.4).

Many modpacks lean on it to remove conflicting recipes or build a central theme. With addon mods it goes further, with new blocks, items and even custom trees in world generation. It is a tool for pack authors more than a feature players notice on their own.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: 1.17.1 to 1.21.1, newest builds published in March 2026.
  • NeoForge: 1.20.2 to 1.21.1, with the 1.21.1 build as the newest.
  • Forge: 1.12.2 to 1.20.4. Builds differ by version, so match the file to your Minecraft version.
  • Java Edition only. Bedrock cannot load it.

Dependencies

NeoForge builds need nothing else. On Fabric, the newest builds require Fabric API and Faux Custom Entity Data. Fabric builds for 1.18.2 to 1.19.2 also want Ingredient Extension API, and builds for 1.17.1 to 1.18.1 need Fabric API plus Ingredient Extension API but not Faux Custom Entity Data.

On Forge, builds for 1.14.4 to 1.18.2 require JEITweaker. Other Forge builds list no dependencies. Put every required .jar in the mods folder beside CraftTweaker, and follow the Forge and NeoForge install guide if you have not set up the loader yet.

Getting started

Documentation lives on the CraftTweaker wiki, and the creators run a Discord for questions. Bugs and feature requests go to the GitHub issue tracker. Expect a learning curve, since the mod does nothing until you write scripts.

Questions about CraftTweaker.

5 questions

What is CraftTweaker used for?

CraftTweaker lets modpack authors and server owners customize the game. You can change or remove recipes, script events, add commands and alter item properties. Combined with addon mods it can also add new blocks and items. Most modpacks use it to remove conflicting recipes or shape a theme.

How do I install CraftTweaker?

Install Fabric, NeoForge or Forge for your Minecraft version, then place the matching CraftTweaker .jar and any required dependencies in the mods folder inside .minecraft. Launch the game with the loader's profile. Fabric builds need Fabric API, and some Forge builds need JEITweaker.

Which Minecraft versions does CraftTweaker support?

Fabric builds cover 1.17.1 to 1.21.1, NeoForge builds cover 1.20.2 to 1.21.1, and Forge builds cover 1.12.2 to 1.20.4. Older builds for 1.3.2 to 1.12.2 also exist. Each build targets one loader and version, so pick the file that matches your setup.

Does CraftTweaker work on Bedrock Edition?

No. CraftTweaker is a Java Edition mod and needs Fabric, NeoForge or Forge. Bedrock Edition cannot load Java mods, and it uses a different format for add-ons, so this mod will not run there.

Does CraftTweaker need Fabric API?

On Fabric, yes. The newest Fabric builds require Fabric API and Faux Custom Entity Data. Older builds for 1.18.2 to 1.19.2 also need Ingredient Extension API. NeoForge builds list no dependencies.
