ClientID

A mod and plugin pair that lets server owners read the mod and resource pack lists of joining players and ban specific mods. It is a preventative filter, not a full anticheat.

What ClientID works with.

PlatformJava Edition
LoadersFabric
Minecraft versions1.20.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3

The ClientID mod is half of a pair. The Fabric mod runs on each player's client, and a plugin for Paper, Spigot, Purpur or Folia runs on the server. Together they let admins see the mod and resource pack lists of everyone who joins, then ban the mods they do not want.

Both halves are required. The plugin goes on the server and the mod goes on every player's client, otherwise the checks cannot run.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What the server can enforce

Bans are set in the plugin config. A player whose mod list contains a banned keyword is kicked.

  • requireMod: on by default. Joining players must have ClientID, and until the server confirms it they cannot act, not even take damage.
  • keywordBans: kicks anyone whose mod list contains a listed keyword.
  • blacklist: bans specific mod IDs.
  • whitelist: mod IDs that bypass both ban lists.
  • playerBypass: usernames allowed in without ClientID or with banned mods. reversePlayerBypass flips it so only listed players are checked.
  • disablePieChart: stops clients from opening the pie chart.
  • logModsOnJoin: prints each player's mods and resource packs to the log when they join. On by default.

Forge, NeoForge and Bedrock players

There is no native Forge or NeoForge build. The mod can run there through conversion mods: Forgified Fabric API, Connector and Fabric Permissions API all need to be installed alongside it.

With Geyser, Bedrock players can still join, but no checks are performed on them.

Questions about ClientID.

4 questions

How does ClientID detect banned mods?

The plugin checks the mod lists of joining players against the keywordBans and blacklist in the server config. A player whose mod list contains a listed keyword or a banned mod ID is kicked. Mods on the whitelist bypass both ban lists, and usernames in playerBypass are let in regardless.

Do I need to install ClientID on both the server and the client?

Yes. The plugin must be on the server and the mod must be on each player's client. With requireMod enabled, which is the default, players without the mod are held in place until the server confirms it.

Does ClientID work with Forge or NeoForge?

Not natively. The mod can be paired with conversion mods: Forgified Fabric API, Connector and Fabric Permissions API all have to be installed alongside it for Forge or NeoForge clients.

Can ClientID stop every cheater?

No. It is a preventative measure against a majority of hackers and is not foolproof. Run an anticheat alongside it for stronger protection.
