Configured

Configured generates in-game settings menus for other mods automatically. Players edit values from a menu instead of hunting through config files.

The Configured mod from MrCrayfish builds in-game configuration menus for other mods, and those mods need no extra code to get one. It runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Catalogue and Framework.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.4 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Catalogue and Framework.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.15.2 to 1.21.3. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Catalogue and Framework.

What it does

Configured began because Forge removed its built-in GUI system, and it has since grown in features and loaders. It reads each supported config system and draws a menu for it, so a player changes a value in a clean interface rather than in a text file. It also adds a keybinding that opens the mod list from in-game without any other mod.

Mod authors can set the background texture of their own config screen through mod metadata. On Forge and NeoForge that is a modproperties entry in mods.toml with a configuredBackground value. On Fabric it is a custom.configured.background entry in fabric.mod.json.

Supported config systems

  • Forge: mods using client, common and world configs.
  • NeoForge: mods using client, common and world configs.
  • Framework: mods using client, common, server and world configs.
  • JEI: editing of its client configs.

Installing Configured

  1. 1.Install the loader that matches your Minecraft release, using the guide for Fabric or for Forge and NeoForge.
  2. 2.Get the file for your loader and release from CurseForge.
  3. 3.Place it in the mods folder inside .minecraft, then launch with the loader's profile.

Questions about Configured.

4 questions

How do I open Configured in-game?

Configured adds a keybinding that opens the mod list from in-game, and no other mod is needed for it. The mod's purpose is editing mod configurations directly in-game, and it builds those menus automatically for mods that use a supported config system. Those systems are Forge, NeoForge and Framework configs, plus JEI's client configs.

Does Configured work on Bedrock?

No. Configured is a Java Edition mod that loads through Fabric, NeoForge or Forge. Bedrock Edition cannot load mods of this kind, so the file will not work there regardless of release.

Which mods get a Configured menu?

Any mod that uses a supported config system gets a menu automatically. Those systems are Forge, NeoForge and Framework configs, plus editing of JEI's client configs.

Do mod authors need to change anything for Configured?

No. Menus are generated without extra code from the mod's author, as long as it uses a supported config system. The only optional step is setting a custom background texture for the config screen through the mod's metadata file.
