Controllable adds full controller and gamepad support to Minecraft Java Edition, the kind of input Bedrock players get by default. Built by MrCrayfish for Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge, it covers 360-degree analog movement, on-screen button prompts, a customizable radial wheel menu, and full button remapping. It runs client-side only, so a server does not need it installed.
Installation and dependencies
Controllable requires MrCrayfish's Framework mod to run, and works optionally alongside Catalogue, his in-game mod menu. Get the jar matching your Minecraft version and loader from CurseForge or the creator's own site, install Framework first, then drop both jars into the mods folder. Players new to modding can start with our guide to installing Fabric before adding Controllable.
- Required: MrCrayfish's Framework mod, matching Controllable's loader and version
- Optional: Catalogue, MrCrayfish's in-game mod menu
- Client-side only, no server-side jar needed
- Configure buttons and sensitivity from the controller settings screen in game
Loader and version support
Support is not identical across loaders. NeoForge and Fabric builds both currently reach Minecraft 26.2 on the beta channel. Forge stopped receiving new builds after 1.20.4, and MrCrayfish has since moved active development to NeoForge and Fabric. Older jars go back to Minecraft 1.12.2, but MrCrayfish only actively supports 1.20.1 and newer, and older builds can be buggy with no further fixes.
- NeoForge: up to Minecraft 26.2, beta channel
- Fabric: up to Minecraft 26.2, beta channel
- Forge: up to Minecraft 1.20.4, no newer builds
- Versions before 1.20.1 are unmaintained
Multiplayer and anti-cheat behavior
The mod also lets you merge two or more connected controllers into one unified input, and it runs on SDL2, the same cross-platform controller library used in many commercial games, so most Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch Pro controllers are recognized without extra drivers.
Controllable versus other controller mods
Controllable is not the only way to add a gamepad to Java Edition. MidnightControls covers Fabric, NeoForge, and Quilt with a similar feature set. Controlify, built by a different developer, targets Fabric and NeoForge and has no Forge build. Controllable's edge is loader coverage: it is the only one of the three still offering a Forge line, even though that line stops at 1.20.4.

Questions about Controllable.
5 questions
How do I install Controllable?
Download the jar for your loader and Minecraft version from CurseForge, plus MrCrayfish's Framework mod, which Controllable requires. Drop both jars into your mods folder alongside Forge, Fabric, or NeoForge, then launch the game and open the controller settings from the options menu to configure buttons.
Does Controllable work with Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge?
Yes, but the loaders are not equally current. Fabric and NeoForge builds track the newest releases through Minecraft 26.2, while Forge support stopped at 1.20.4. Pick the loader build that matches the Minecraft version you already have installed.
What is the difference between Controllable and Controlify?
They are separate mods from different developers. Controllable, from MrCrayfish, covers Forge, Fabric, and NeoForge. Controlify, from a different creator, targets Fabric and NeoForge only, with no Forge build. Pick whichever one matches your loader and the rest of your mod list.
Does analog movement work on multiplayer servers?
Controllable disables 360-degree analog movement by default on remote multiplayer servers, since some anti-cheat plugins misread it as suspicious input. Players can force it back on in settings, but MrCrayfish does not take responsibility for any resulting ban.
Can I use Controllable on Bedrock Edition?
No. Bedrock Edition already has native controller support built in, so a separate mod is not needed there. Controllable exists specifically to bring that same functionality to Java Edition, which has no built-in controller support of its own.
