Cubes Without Borders replaces Minecraft Java's all-or-nothing exclusive fullscreen with a real borderless window. The game keeps rendering at full size while you alt-tab, run overlays, or work on a second monitor, instead of minimizing the moment it loses focus. It runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt, needs no other mod to work, and is client-side only, so it never has to match anything on the server.
What changes in Video Settings
The mod adds a third Fullscreen option, Borderless, next to vanilla's Off and On in the Video Settings menu. Switching to it keeps the window at your desktop's native size with no title bar, and it also adds a --borderless startup flag that forces the game into that mode before the main menu even loads. Sodium users get the same option inside Sodium's own video settings screen, complete with its own performance note.
Installation and loader support
Cubes Without Borders has no required dependency beyond the loader itself, Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt. Drop the jar in your mods folder and it works immediately with vanilla's default settings. Configuration
An in-game settings screen opens through Mod Menu when either Cloth Config API or YetAnotherConfigLib is installed. Without either, the same options live in the cwb.json file inside your loader's config folder. Windows defaults to a true windowed fullscreen mode rather than the Linux and macOS borderless modes, because it avoids a display flicker some Windows users see when the window gains or loses focus, at the cost of the small latency and frame-pacing penalty that windowed mode's V-Sync adds on that platform.
Known issues and platform notes
- Windows: the cursor can go invisible in inventories under fullscreen. That is usually caused by Medal, OBS's Windows 10+ capture method, or the system's Display Pointer Trails setting, not by the mod. Switching to the windowed fullscreen type works around it.
- Linux (KDE Plasma, GNOME): a browser picture-in-picture window can end up behind the borderless Minecraft window. A window rule that forces the PiP window's layer above fullscreen apps fixes it.
- Rebranded or unsupported Sodium forks may show a plain toggle instead of the Borderless option. Pressing Ctrl+Shift+P opens vanilla Video Settings, where the option still appears.
