Customizable Player Models (CPM) replaces the flat skin-layer system with a full in-game 3D avatar editor. Players model new geometry such as horns, wings, tails, and extra limbs, paint custom textures, and bake the finished result into their skin file. It ships as a client mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt, covering releases from the old Beta era through the current 26.2 build.
What Customizable Player Models does
The mod's editor works like a lightweight modeling session inside Minecraft itself. Players build custom geometry, paint textures, add glow effects similar to glow squids, and animate parts for idle, walking, and sitting states. Finished models can be shared through a public community browser or saved privately. Players commonly call it the CPM mod, after its initials. Anyone who also wants their custom parts rendered from a first-person camera can pair it with First-person Model, which shows arms, legs, and other body parts while looking through your own eyes.
- Custom geometry beyond the vanilla player skin, including horns, tails, wings, and extra limbs
- Glow effects on individual skin parts
- Custom idle, walking, and sitting animations
- A public model browser for sharing finished avatars
- Higher-resolution skin textures than the vanilla format allows
Client and server installation
CPM's client build is a Fabric mod first, with ported builds for Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt kept in step with the same Minecraft releases. Legacy Babric and BTA-Babric builds cover the old Beta versions the mod has supported since it first launched. Match the loader jar to your Minecraft version and drop it into your mods folder like any other loader mod. New to Fabric? See How to Install Fabric on Minecraft Java for the loader setup before adding the CPM jar.
- Fabric, the primary and most actively updated build
- Forge and NeoForge, parallel builds for the same version range
- Quilt, a Fabric-compatible build
- Babric and BTA-Babric, legacy builds for old Beta-era Minecraft
Custom player models on a server
A model built with CPM only shows up for someone else if their game can read it. That means the other player runs Customizable Player Models too, or the server they are connected to runs CPM's own Bukkit, Paper, Spigot, Purpur, or Folia build, with a Java agent option for server software that doesn't support plugins. The server-side build lets an admin add CPM support without asking every player to install a client loader mod first.
Minecraft version support
CPM has tracked Minecraft since the 1.2.5 Beta era, with active builds continuing through the year.drop releases. The current stable line covers 26.1 and 26.2, and 26.3 snapshot builds are already published for players testing ahead of the next stable drop.

Questions about Customizable Player Models.
4 questions
How do I install Customizable Player Models?
Download the loader-matched jar (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt) from the Modrinth project page and drop it into your mods folder. Match the version number in the filename to your Minecraft install, then launch that loader profile. The in-game editor opens through CPM's menu once you're in a world.
Do other players see my custom player model?
Only if they can read it. Another player needs Customizable Player Models installed too, or the server needs to run CPM's Bukkit, Paper, Spigot, Purpur, or Folia build. Without either, other players and vanilla servers just see your normal Minecraft skin, not the custom geometry or animations.
Which Minecraft version does the CPM mod support?
Customizable Player Models covers releases going back to the 1.2.5 Beta era, with active builds through the current 26.1 and 26.2 stable line. 26.3 snapshot builds are already available for early testers, ahead of the next stable release.
Is Customizable Player Models safe to use?
Customizable Player Models is released under the MIT license and distributed through Modrinth, with source available on GitHub. Download it only from the Modrinth project page rather than a third-party mirror, to avoid a tampered file.
