What it adds

The mod is built as a grab bag rather than a single theme. These are the features its author highlights.

  • Vector plates are flat, rotatable blocks that push mobs and other entities along. Mobs can spawn on top of them, which makes them a common pick for mob farms.
  • Mob filters let only certain mob types pass. The hostile filter, for example, admits hostile mobs and nothing else.
  • The sleep charm wards off insomnia while it sits in your inventory, so phantoms stop spawning. You also fall asleep the moment you enter a bed.
  • The redstone randomizer toggles on and off at random and emits a signal while on.
  • The player damage plate hurts any mob that steps on it.

That is only a sample. The wiki lists the rest, and the repository notes addon support for other mods.

Installation

  1. 1.Install the loader that matches your release, using the Forge and NeoForge guide or the Fabric guide.
  2. 2.Download the Dark Utilities file for your loader and Minecraft release from CurseForge.
  3. 3.Download every dependency the list above names for your build, and match each file to the same loader and release.
  4. 4.Place every file in the mods folder, then launch with the loader's profile. The general steps are in the mod installation guide.

Questions about Dark Utilities.

4 questions

Does Dark Utilities work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. The files are tagged for both client and server, so the mod can be installed on a dedicated server as well as on each player's own setup. It is a Java mod for Fabric, NeoForge, Quilt and Forge, so the loader must match your Minecraft release. Bedrock cannot load it.

What does the sleep charm do in Dark Utilities?

The sleep charm works passively while it is in your inventory. It blocks the effects of insomnia, which stops phantoms from spawning, and you fall asleep instantly when you get into a bed. You do not need to hold it or place it anywhere.

Does Dark Utilities need other mods to run?

Yes, for most builds. The required libraries differ by loader and Minecraft release, so no single list fits every file. Check the dependency list for your exact loader and release, then install every file it names alongside the mod, matching each one to the same loader and release.

What are vector plates used for?

Vector plates are flat blocks you can rotate to push mobs and other entities in a chosen direction. Mobs can also spawn on top of them, which is why players use them to move mobs through farms. Each block and item in the mod has a tooltip explaining its use.
