Deep Aether is an addon for The Aether that adds new biomes, ores, mobs and building sets to the Aether dimension. It loads on NeoForge and Forge and must be installed on both sides of a multiplayer connection. The aim is the same treatment the Nether got in its 1.16 expansion, delivered in the original Aether art style.

Loaders and versions

What it adds

  • Five biomes: Aerglow Forest, Blue Aerglow Forest, Aerlavender Fields, Yagroot Swamp and Golden Heights.
  • New wood sets from Roseroot, Blue Roseroot, Yagroot, Cruderoot, Conberry and Sunroot trees.
  • Two stone types, Clorite and Aseterite, plus Aether Mud and Mud Bricks.
  • Aerglow Fish and the Aether Quail, which comes in several colour variants.
  • Placeable poison liquid, Virulent Quicksand and Aersmog, a cloud that inflicts the Inebriation effect.
  • Two music discs, "Nabooru" and "A Morning Wish" by Emile van Krieken, written for the old Aether I mod.

Skyjade and Stratus gear

Skyjade is found in Holystone and makes blocks, armor, tools and weapons. Its ability is strongest on first use and fades as durability drops, the reverse of Zanite. Stratus comes from Sterling Aerclouds, which can be enchanted into Chromatic Aerclouds and crafted into ingots. A full Stratus set, gloves included, grants slow falling and a dash on the R key. The Spooky Ring from dungeon loot raises damage dealt at night.

Cross-compatibility covers Aether Lost Content and Aether Redux, including Skyjade and Cloudium shields and brick variants of Gilded, Frosted and Blightmoss Holystone.

  2. 2.Place the Deep Aether file and every dependency listed above for your release in the mods folder, as the Java mod installation guide describes.
  3. 3.Put the same files on the host, then launch with the loader profile.

Questions about Deep Aether.

4 questions

Does Deep Aether work without The Aether?

Deep Aether is built as an addon for The Aether, adding biomes, ores and mobs to that dimension, so plan to install The Aether alongside it. The newest NeoForge and Forge builds list The Aether and TerraBlender as requirements. Older builds differ, so check the dependency list of the file you choose.

Where do I find Sterling Aerclouds in Deep Aether?

Sterling Aerclouds generate high in the Aether sky, above Y = 200. A low render distance can make the clusters hard to spot, so raise it or fly higher. They can be enchanted into Chromatic Aerclouds, and Stratus ingots are crafted from them.

What does Stratus armor do?

A full Stratus set, gloves included, gives slow falling, an upgrade over Gravitite's high jump. Pressing R with the full set triggers a dash. Stratus ingots are crafted from Sterling or Chromatic Aerclouds, and the metal also makes tools and weapons.

Will Deep Aether be backported to older releases?

No. The Aether only supports 1.19.2 and later, so the addon cannot go earlier. The developers also say they cannot maintain older codebases. They accept unofficial backports if people tell them first and make clear the port is not maintained by the team.
