Alex's Caves adds six rare underground biome types that generate beneath the Overworld in Minecraft 1.20.1. Each biome brings its own terrain shape, block palette, custom mob spawns, and structural loot, turning the deep underground into a destination worth preparing for. The mod requires the Citadel library and supports Forge and NeoForge.

The Six Cave Biomes

Each biome generates as a large, rare underground chamber. They spawn deep enough that casual mining trips rarely hit them; dedicated exploration is the intended path.

  • Primordial Caves: sprawling prehistoric caverns featuring fossilized bones, ancient-fauna mob spawns, and dense undergrowth deep below the surface.
  • Magnetic Caves: chambers dominated by magnetite formations and floating rock driven by magnetic forces, with movement interactions for metal-bearing gear.
  • Forlorn Hollows: dark, atmospheric hollow spaces with rare structural features and mobs suited to deep-cave environments.
  • Abyssal Chasm: steep, water-adjacent vertical rifts that plunge well below sea level with deep-ocean-variant mob encounters.
  • Toxic Caves: radioactive biomes that generate nuclear material deposits and introduce radiation-based gameplay hazards.
  • Candy Cavity: high-contrast candy-themed caverns with crystalline sugar formations, confectionery blocks, and distinctive mob spawns.

How to Install Alex's Caves

  1. 1.Install Minecraft Forge or NeoForge for version 1.20.1.
  2. 2.Download the Citadel library from Modrinth and place the jar in your mods folder. Citadel is a required dependency.
  3. 3.Download Alex's Caves from Modrinth and place it in the same mods folder.
  4. 4.Launch the game. Both jars must load without errors for the cave biomes to generate.

Multiplayer and Server Use

Alex's Caves must be installed on both the client and the server. The mod generates cave biomes at world creation time, so adding it to an existing world only adds new biomes in previously unloaded chunks. On an active server this means venturing into unexplored areas rather than revisiting already-generated terrain.

Pairing with Alex's Mobs

Alex's Caves is made by AlexModGuy, the same creator as Alex's Mobs. The two mods are designed to work alongside each other: Alex's Mobs adds creature variety across the Overworld and standard caves, while Alex's Caves provides the specialized underground biomes that expand deep exploration. Running both together reflects the intended design.

Questions about this entry.

  • How do I install Alex's Caves?

Install Forge or NeoForge for Minecraft 1.20.1, then place both the Citadel library jar and the Alex's Caves jar in your mods folder. Citadel is listed as a required dependency on the Modrinth page with the matching version pinned to each release.

  • Does Alex's Caves work on multiplayer servers?

Yes. Both the client and the server must have Alex's Caves and Citadel installed. Cave biomes generate when new chunks load, so on an existing world they will only appear in freshly explored areas.

  • Is Alex's Caves compatible with Fabric?

No. Version 2.0.2 supports Forge and NeoForge for Minecraft 1.20.1 only. There is no Fabric port. Check the Modrinth versions tab for any newer loader support.

  • Which Minecraft version does Alex's Caves support?

The current release, version 2.0.2, targets Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge and NeoForge. Check the Modrinth versions tab for newer releases.

  • Does Alex's Caves work with Alex's Mobs?

Yes. Both mods are made by AlexModGuy and are designed to run together. Alex's Mobs adds creature variety while Alex's Caves adds the underground biomes that house many of those encounters. No separate compatibility patch is needed.
