Enchantment Descriptions adds a short, plain-language line under an enchantment's name and level in an item's tooltip, so Sharpness or Efficiency reads as what it does instead of just a name and a roman numeral. It's a Darkhax mod for Minecraft Java, available for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt. It's required on the client and optional on the server. Two other Darkhax libraries, Bookshelf and Prickle, are required for it to load.
What the enchantment tooltips actually show
Hover over any enchanted item, including an enchanted book sitting in a chest or your inventory, and the added line explains the effect in one sentence, for example "Increases the damage of the item" under Sharpness or "Allows the bow to fire normal arrows for free" under Infinity. Vanilla enchantments get built-in descriptions out of the box. A modded enchantment shows a description too, once the mod that adds it ships matching description text for this mod to read.
Installing Enchantment Descriptions and its two dependencies
Enchantment Descriptions will not load without Bookshelf and Prickle, two shared-code libraries Darkhax also maintains. Download the build of each file that matches your loader and Minecraft version, place all three jars in the mods folder together, and launch the game. Compatibility with JEI
With Just Enough Items installed, Enchantment Descriptions adds its tooltip text to JEI's information tab as well, and adds a compatible items tab that lists every item a given enchantment can be applied to, including how to apply it. Neither feature needs any setup beyond having both mods installed.
Loader and Minecraft version support
Version support is not even across the four loaders. Fabric and NeoForge builds already cover the newer 26.1 and 26.2 Minecraft drops, and Darkhax has kept publishing matching builds for 1.21.11 too. Forge and Quilt have not reached the 26.x line yet. Forge's newest build tops out at Minecraft 1.21.1, with an older release still available for 1.20.1, and Quilt's newest published build also covers 1.21.1, with an earlier release covering 1.21.11.

Download the build that matches your loader and Minecraft version from Modrinth, along with Bookshelf and Prickle, the two Darkhax libraries it depends on. Place all three jar files in your mods folder and launch the game. Missing either dependency stops the game from starting, so add them at the same time rather than one at a time.
Does Enchantment Descriptions work with Forge?
