Immersive Portals is a Fabric mod for Minecraft Java that renders true see-through portals and teleports you through them with no loading screen, using non-Euclidean tricks to fold and reshape space. The main build requires the mod on both client and server, and it tops out at Minecraft 1.21.1. A separate Forge and NeoForge port and a community fork called Immersive Portals Continued extend the idea further, each with its own version range.
What Immersive Portals mod does
The mod rewrites how Minecraft loads and renders dimensions. Instead of a black loading screen, a portal becomes a real window into the space on the other side, and walking through it teleports you instantly. It also supports portal-in-portal rendering, mirrors, dimension stacking, world wrapping, and transformations that change player scale or gravity direction as you pass through. Datapacks and commands can customize portal placement and behavior, and the mod exposes an API other mods can build on.
- See-through nether, end, and custom portals with no loading screen
- Non-Euclidean space folding and portal-in-portal rendering
- Player scale and gravity transformation when passing through a portal
- Mirrors, dimension stacking, and world wrapping
- Datapack and command options for customizing portal behavior
- An API other mods can use to manage portals or synchronize remote chunks
Which Minecraft version Immersive Portals supports
The main Fabric build was last updated on November 21, 2025, and its highest supported release is Minecraft 1.21.1. Older releases reach back through 1.19.4, 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.20.2, and 1.20.4, and further back to 1.16.5 for older worlds. Minecraft moved to year.drop version numbers (26.1 and later) in 2026, and as of this check none of the three builds covered on this page, the Fabric original, the Forge and NeoForge port, or the Continued fork, has followed. If you are running a current 26.x drop, none of them installs yet.
Immersive Portals for Forge, NeoForge, and the Continued fork
Fabric is not the only option. Immersive Portals for (Neo)Forge, maintained by Nick1st under the iPortalTeam GitHub organization, ports the same core mechanics to Forge and NeoForge and also reaches Minecraft 1.21.1 at its current 6.0.7 release. Immersive Portals Continued, maintained separately by mysticpasta1, is a Fabric fork built to work with Iris, the Sinytra Connector, and Sodium 0.6, but its own supported range is narrower, currently just Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. All three are separate Modrinth projects under the Apache License 2.0, so check the version list on whichever one you pick before you commit a world to it.
How to install Immersive Portals on Fabric
- 1.Install Fabric Loader for a supported version, 1.21.1 or earlier on the main build.
- 2.Download the matching Immersive Portals version from its Modrinth page.
- 3.Drop the jar file into your instance's mods folder.
- 4.If you run a dedicated server, install the same mod version on the server too, since both sides are required.
- 5.Launch the world and adjust portal behavior through the in-game options or a datapack if needed.
Questions about Immersive Portals.
5 questions
What Minecraft version does Immersive Portals support?
The main Fabric build tops out at Minecraft 1.21.1, with older releases reaching back to 1.16.5. Minecraft has since moved to year.drop version numbers, and as of this check none of the Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, or Continued builds has been updated past the 1.21.1 line, so a current 26.x drop is not yet supported by any of them.
Does Immersive Portals work with Forge or NeoForge?
Not the main project, which is Fabric-only. A separate Modrinth project, Immersive Portals for (Neo)Forge, ports the same mechanics to Forge and NeoForge and also reaches Minecraft 1.21.1. It is maintained independently under the iPortalTeam GitHub organization, so check its own version list before downloading.
Is Immersive Portals compatible with Sodium and Iris?
Only with specific builds. Immersive Portals changes core rendering code and works with just one particular Sodium and Iris version at a time, and it has not been compatible with OptiFine since Minecraft 1.18. The Continued fork specifically targets newer Iris and Sodium 0.6 support if the main build's pairing does not match your setup.
How do I install Immersive Portals on Fabric?
Install Fabric Loader for a version the mod supports, download the matching Immersive Portals jar from Modrinth, and place it in your mods folder. Because the mod is required on both sides, a dedicated server needs the same version installed too, or clients will fail to join.
Is Immersive Portals safe to use on a multiplayer server?
It is built to run on both client and server and is published under the Apache License 2.0 with source available on GitHub. That said, it deeply changes world loading and rendering, so test it on a private server first, especially alongside other mods that touch rendering or dimensions.
