The Lighty mod is a light level overlay for Minecraft Java on Fabric and NeoForge, with older Quilt and Forge releases that have since stopped. It runs on the client side only. Instead of crosses or numbers on block tops, it lays a transparent carpet-like layer over the floor, and it can also draw the actual light numbers in its own style. It was inspired by LightLevel.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 26.3. The newest build requires Fabric API; some builds for 1.20.6 to 1.21.10 need no dependencies; some builds for 1.20.5 to 1.20.6 need no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.3 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Quilt: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.20.4, builds stopped after July 2024. The newest build requires Fabric API.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.20 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after July 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What the overlay shows
The colours tell you spawn safety at a glance, which suits lighting up a cave base or a mob farm perimeter.
- Green means no mobs can spawn on that block.
- Orange means mobs will spawn once the sun goes down.
- Red means mobs can spawn there right now.
Controls and configuration
- Press F7 to activate the overlay and pick a mode. The key can be rebound in the key binds menu.
- Press F8 to toggle the overlay on or off quickly. This is also rebindable.
- Open the config menu through F7 to move the red and orange threshold. That helps if you light your builds for looks, or play with mods that change mob spawning rules.
On Fabric, Fabric API is required for the newest release. Mod Menu is an optional extra on some Fabric releases.
Installation
- 1.Install Fabric or NeoForge for the Minecraft release you play.
- 2.On Fabric, add Fabric API alongside Lighty.
- 3.Place the Lighty file in the mods folder of your game directory.
- 4.Launch with the loader's profile and press F7 in a world.
Questions about Lighty.
3 questions
Does Lighty work on multiplayer servers?
Lighty needs to be installed on the player's own game, and servers are not supported. Do not put it in a server mods folder. Because it only draws an overlay locally, it changes nothing for other players on the same world.
What do the colours in Lighty mean?
Green marks blocks where no mobs can spawn. Orange marks blocks where mobs will spawn after sunset. Red marks blocks where mobs can spawn right away. The red and orange threshold can be adjusted in the config menu opened through F7.
How do I turn the Lighty overlay on and off?
Press F7 to activate the overlay and choose a mode, then press F8 to toggle it on or off quickly. Both keys can be changed in the key binds menu. The F7 screen also holds the threshold setting.
