What LOD Server Support works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, NeoForge |

| Environment | Client, Server |
LOD Server Support is a Minecraft Java mod and plugin that sends distant terrain to players running Voxy, so a multiplayer world renders hundreds of chunks out without anyone exploring it first. The mod runs on Fabric and NeoForge, with plugin releases for Paper, Purpur, Folia and Sponge. It has to be present on the server and on every player's side.
What it adds
Voxy players get fully rendered terrain far beyond vanilla render distance. Far Players adds other players to that distant terrain, with name tags, equipment and mounts. The mod can also fill Xaero's World Map, Xaero's Minimap and JourneyMap from the LOD data. That is on by default in new installs, and the Map Ingestion toggle sits in the Sodium settings.
On servers running Distant Horizons 3.3.x, far terrain loads through Voxy even when LOD Server Support is absent from the server. This is experimental and on by default. Do not install the Distant Horizons mod next to it. The Distant Horizons team does not endorse this feature.
Installation
- 1.Put the Fabric mod, NeoForge mod, Paper plugin or Sponge plugin on the server.
- 2.On each player's Fabric setup, add the mod together with Fabric API, which it requires, and Voxy to see the terrain. Sodium, JourneyMap and Mod Menu are optional.
- 3.Start once to generate config. The server file is config/lss-server-config.yaml on Fabric, NeoForge and Sponge, or plugins/LodServerSupport/lss-server-config.yaml on Paper. Player settings live in config/lss-client-config.yaml.
- 4.Edit the YAML, then run /lsslod reload on the server or /lss reload on the player's side.
Compatibility and trade-offs
The server side works with AntiXray, Moonrise, C2ME, ViaVersion, ViaBackwards and Create, and it can run beside Distant Horizons so both kinds of players are served. Releases are backwards and forwards compatible from v0.4.0. Server owners can ask players not to add LOD terrain to their maps with privacy.request_no_map_ingestion.
The cost is setup. Folia and Sponge support is experimental, and NeoForge support is limited, with far player rendering on 1.21.1 only. NeoForge players also need a bridge to load the Fabric Voxy file, Roxy on 1.21.1 with Forgified Fabric API or the Foxy fork on 26.1 and 26.2. Voxy runs on the OpenGL graphics backend only.

Questions about LOD Server Support.
4 questions
Does LOD Server Support work with Distant Horizons?
Partly. Voxy players can see far terrain from servers running Distant Horizons 3.3.x, even without LOD Server Support on the server. That feature is experimental. The server can also run both mods so Distant Horizons players and Voxy players are served together. Do not install the Distant Horizons mod on the same player setup.
Do I need to install LOD Server Support on the server and on my own setup?
Yes. It must be on the server as a Fabric mod, NeoForge mod, Paper plugin or Sponge plugin, and on every player who wants the distant terrain. Players without it can still join and play normally, they just do not receive the extra terrain.
Does LOD Server Support work on Paper servers?
Yes. A Paper plugin is published, and it also covers Purpur. Folia and Sponge plugins exist as well, but both are experimental. Players still need Voxy and LOD Server Support on their side, and the Paper config sits under plugins/LodServerSupport.
Can it show far players as well as terrain?
Yes. Far Players places other players in the distant terrain with name tags, equipment and mounts, well beyond vanilla render distance. On NeoForge this works on 1.21.1 only.
