| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|

| Environment | Client, Server |
Voxy Server Side is an add-on for Voxy that sends level of detail (LOD) terrain from a server straight to connected players. Join a multiplayer world and distant land is already rendered, stretching hundreds of chunks, with no exploring first. It ships as a Fabric and NeoForge mod, plus a plugin for Paper, Purpur and Folia, and it needs to be present on both the client and the server.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric and NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it adds
- Distant terrain delivered by the server for Voxy to render.
- Far Players: other players thousands of blocks away appear in the LOD terrain with name tags, equipment and mounts. Clients choose whether to share their location.
- LODs are stored on the server by default for performance. You can turn that off.
- Voxy data from servers can be written to Xaero's World Map, and Voxy is not required for that.
- Works alongside AntiXray, Moonrise, C2ME, ViaVersion and ViaBackwards.
Setup
- 1.Client: put Voxy and the Fabric or NeoForge file of this mod in the mods folder. The config appears at config/vss-client-config.json.
- 2.Fabric or NeoForge server: put the matching mod file in the server's mods folder and restart. The config appears at config/vss-server-config.json.
- 3.Paper, Purpur or Folia server: put the paper plugin file in the plugins folder and restart. The config appears at plugins/VoxyServerSide/vss-server-config.json.
Troubleshooting
This mod is not affiliated with Voxy's author, so do not ask them for help with it. Keep Voxy and its dependencies current on the client, and keep Voxy Server Side and its dependencies current on both the server and the client. Run /vss clearcache if problems persist. If they continue, test with only Voxy and this mod installed, no shaders or other mods, to find the conflict. Original work on the mod comes from VoX.
Questions about Voxy Server Side.
4 questions
Do I need Voxy to use Voxy Server Side?
Yes, for LOD terrain. Players need Voxy plus the Fabric or NeoForge file of this mod on the client, because the server only sends the data and Voxy renders it. The Xaero's World Map export is the exception, since it does not require Voxy.
Does Voxy Server Side work on Paper servers?
Yes. A plugin file goes in the plugins folder of a Paper, Purpur or Folia server. Players still need Voxy and the Fabric or NeoForge mod on their own client, regardless of which server software you run.
Where are the Voxy Server Side config files?
The client config is config/vss-client-config.json. Fabric and NeoForge servers use config/vss-server-config.json, and Paper-type servers use plugins/VoxyServerSide/vss-server-config.json. Each file is created after the first launch with the mod or plugin installed.
What should I do if distant terrain looks wrong or missing?
Keep Voxy and its dependencies current on the client, and keep Voxy Server Side and its dependencies current on both the server and the client. Then run /vss clearcache. If that fails, remove other mods and shaders to find a conflict. Report bugs on the GitHub issue tracker, not to Voxy's author.
