MidnightLib

MidnightLib is TeamMidnightDust's shared configuration library, a background dependency for mods like MidnightControls rather than something you install for itself.

MidnightLib is a shared code library from TeamMidnightDust, the studio behind MidnightControls and Visuality. It supplies a common configuration screen system so those mods do not each build their own, and most players meet it as a required dependency rather than something they go looking for. It is MIT licensed and ships for Fabric, Quilt, NeoForge, and Forge.

Why mods require MidnightLib

A mod lists MidnightLib as a dependency when it uses MidnightLib's configuration screen and utility code instead of writing its own settings menu. MidnightControls is the clearest example on this site, but any TeamMidnightDust mod that ships an in-game options screen can pull it in. MidnightLib does not add blocks, items, or gameplay changes by itself. Installing it without a mod that depends on it does nothing visible.

Installing MidnightLib

Drop the MidnightLib jar into the mods folder alongside the mod that requires it, matching loader and Minecraft version exactly. On Fabric and Quilt, Fabric API is also a required dependency; MidnightLib will fail to load without it.

  • Fabric and Quilt share one build and both require Fabric API
  • NeoForge and Forge each ship a separate build
  • Client and server installs are both optional, matching whatever the dependent mod needs

Loader and version support

Fabric, Quilt, and NeoForge builds are actively maintained and currently reach Minecraft 26.3. Forge is far behind: its last release shipped in December 2025 for Minecraft 1.20.1, and Forge builds never went past 1.20.2. A crash report naming MidnightLib often points at a different problem, since players on both the Forge issue tracker and Reddit have reported it taking blame for crashes actually caused by other mods.

Questions about MidnightLib.

4 questions

What is MidnightLib and why does a mod need it?

MidnightLib is a shared code library from TeamMidnightDust. Their mods, including MidnightControls, use it for a common in-game configuration screen instead of each building its own. If a mod on that list is installed, MidnightLib has to be installed alongside it.

Why does MidnightLib show up in my crash report?

A crash report often names MidnightLib when the real cause is a missing or outdated Fabric API, a different mod entirely, or a version mismatch with the mod that depends on it. Read the full stack trace before removing MidnightLib, since players on Forge and Reddit have both reported it taking blame for unrelated crashes.

Does MidnightLib do anything on its own?

No. MidnightLib adds no gameplay features by itself. It only supplies the configuration screen and utility code that other TeamMidnightDust mods call into, so installing it alone changes nothing in-game.

Which version of MidnightLib do I need?

Match the MidnightLib build to the loader and Minecraft version of the mod that requires it. Fabric, Quilt, and NeoForge builds currently reach 26.3, while Forge support stopped at Minecraft 1.20.1 with the December 2025 release.
