Mini-boss Boss Bars gives resilient mobs that are not quite bosses a health bar of their own, including the vanilla Elder Guardian and Warden. It runs on Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge. It is required on the server and optional on the client.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric and Quilt: Minecraft 1.21 to 1.21.1. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge and NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 1.21.1. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What the bars do

It is an addon for other mods. It adds bars to mini-bosses, and to true bosses that lack one, from a long list of supported mods. Examples include the Forsaken and Hullbreaker from Alex's Caves, the Mother of the Maze from Aquamirae, and the Battle Tower Guardian from Battle Towers. You do not need every listed mod. The bars adapt to whatever is installed.

The bars behave differently from vanilla ones. They do not appear when a mob spawns. A player has to land at least one hit first. Walk 60 blocks or more away and the bar disappears until the next hit. This keeps the screen clear of fights you never started.

Installation

  1. 1.Pick the file for your loader and put it in the mods folder. The Java mod guide covers the steps.
  2. 2.On 1.20.1, some supported Fabric mods need the Sinytra Connector mod.
  3. 3.Add the mods whose bosses you want bars for. The newest files require no dependencies.

Configuration and commands

To force the bars on for a mob battle or testing, run /mbbbforceshowbossbars on 1.20.1 or /trigger mbbbforceshowbossbars on 1.21.1. The Tremorzilla bar only appears this way.

To switch off bars for specific bosses, edit the common.toml file in the config folder on 1.20.1. On 1.21.1, use the separate configuration datapack, which has its own instructions.

Questions about Mini-boss Boss Bars.

4 questions

Why does the boss bar not show when a mini-boss spawns?

The bar only appears after a player hits the mob at least once. It vanishes again when you move 60 blocks or more away, and it returns on the next hit. This avoids bars for fights you never started.

How do I force the bars to show?

Run /mbbbforceshowbossbars on 1.20.1, or /trigger mbbbforceshowbossbars on 1.21.1. The command toggles the bars on demand, which helps for mob battles and testing. Tremorzilla only gets a bar this way.

How do I turn off a boss bar for one mob?

On 1.20.1, edit the mod's common.toml file in the config folder. On 1.21.1, use the separate configuration datapack, which comes with its own instructions.

Do I need every supported mod installed?

No. The mod adjusts to whichever supported mods are present, and it also covers the vanilla Elder Guardian and Warden. Install only the mods you want bars for.
