The Neat mod adds minimalist unit frames to the top of every entity, showing name, health and armor at a glance. It is made by Vazkii and Uraneptus, targets NeoForge today, and has older Forge releases that have stopped. It works purely on the player's side.
Loaders and versions
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Forge: Minecraft 1.14.4 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after October 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What the unit frames show
- Name, health and armor above each entity.
- A health bar that shifts from green to yellow to red as health drops.
- The mob's attribute for Smite or Bane of Arthropods, next to its armor.
- Grouped bars for mob stacks, such as spider or chicken jockeys.
- Colored names for mobs and players on Scoreboard Teams.
- A keybind to toggle the bars, plus extensive configuration.
Installation
Install NeoForge for your game release first, using the Forge and NeoForge setup guide. Then drop the mod file into your mods folder, as the general mod install guide describes, and launch with the NeoForge profile. Neat needs no other mods.
Nothing has to be installed on a multiplayer host, because the mod is fully client sided. A separate Fabric and Quilt release is available elsewhere.
How to Install and Use the Neat mod
Questions about Neat.
4 questions
Does Neat work on multiplayer servers?
Yes. Neat is fully client sided, and its files are tagged for the player's side only. Nothing needs to be installed on the host, and joining a multiplayer world does not require the host to have it. The bars are drawn locally on your own screen.
Does the Neat mod work on Fabric?
This page covers the NeoForge and Forge releases. A separate Fabric and Quilt release is available elsewhere. A mod file only runs on the loader it was made for.
Does Neat show health bars through walls?
No. Health bars only appear when the mob is not obstructed, so walls and blocks hide them.
Can I toggle Neat's health bars off?
Yes. Neat includes a keybind that toggles the health bars on and off, and it is also very configurable. You can change settings without removing the mod.
