Only Bottle Caps

A small Cobblemon add-on that introduces only bottle caps, nothing else. Fish them up, craft stat-specific variants, and use them to max or zero a Pokémon's IVs.

Only Bottle Caps is a lightweight add-on for Cobblemon that adds bottle caps and little else. It runs on Fabric and NeoForge, and it has to be installed on both the player's side and the host's side. If you want IV training items without a pile of extra content, this is the narrow option.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.21.1. The newest build requires SuperMartijn642's Config Lib and Cobblemon; some builds for 1.21.1 need no dependencies; some builds for 1.21.1 require Cobblemon.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1. The newest build requires Cobblemon.

How bottle caps work

You fish bottle caps from treasure loot, using either a regular fishing rod or the PokeRod. Two base types drop, silver and gold.

  • Silver bottle cap: craft it with the matching stat mint leaf around it for a stat-specific cap (white is used for HP).
  • Gold bottle cap: maxes out all IV stats of a Pokémon in one use.
  • Withered bottle cap: craft a bottle cap with a wither rose. It sets the chosen IV stat to 0 instead of 31.

To apply any cap, right click a Pokémon you own while holding it.

Installation

Pick the file that matches your loader and Cobblemon release, then place it in the mods folder along with its required dependencies. Launch with the Fabric or NeoForge profile. If you have not set up a loader yet, the guide on installing mods on Java Edition covers the steps. On a multiplayer world, the host and every player need the same mod installed.

What to expect

The feature set is deliberately small. There are no new Pokémon, no new biomes and no extra systems, only the caps and their recipes. The trade-off is that you depend on fishing luck for the first silver or gold cap, and the mod does nothing without Cobblemon. Problems are handled through the Cobblemon Discord support thread, since the mod links no issue tracker.

Questions about Only Bottle Caps.

4 questions

How do I get bottle caps with Only Bottle Caps?

You fish for them. Treasure loot from a regular fishing rod or the PokeRod can give a silver or a gold bottle cap. Silver caps can then be crafted into stat-specific caps, and a wither rose turns a cap into a withered one.

How do I use a bottle cap on a Pokémon?

Hold the bottle cap and right click a Pokémon you own. Normal caps set the chosen IV stat to 31, a gold cap maxes every IV stat, and a withered cap sets the chosen IV stat to 0.

How do I craft a stat-specific bottle cap?

Place a silver bottle cap in the middle of the crafting table and surround it with the matching stat mint leaf. White mint leaves are used for HP. Adding a wither rose to a bottle cap makes the withered variant instead.

Does Only Bottle Caps work without Cobblemon?

No. It is an add-on that only adds items for Cobblemon, and the newest files on both Fabric and NeoForge list Cobblemon as a required dependency.
