Open Parties and Claims is a Minecraft Java mod that lets players claim and protect chunks and form parties, with server owners controlling the rules. It runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt from 1.18.2 through 26.3 (NeoForge starts at 1.20.2, matching that loader's own first release). It is required on the server; installing it on the client is optional and mainly unlocks the in-game claim and party menu instead of chat commands.
Loaders, versions, and dependencies
- Fabric, Forge, and Quilt: Minecraft 1.18.2 through 26.3.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.2 through 26.3.
- Fabric and Quilt both need Fabric API (or Quilted Fabric API) plus Forge Config API Port installed alongside it.
- Forge only needs Forge Config API Port starting at Minecraft 1.20.4; earlier Forge builds run without it.
- Server required. Client install is optional and adds the in-game claim and party UI.
Chunk protection and configuration
By default, claimed chunks are protected for their owner, with exceptions for party or ally relations and custom player groups. The main config file lives at [world directory]/serverconfig/openpartiesandclaims-server.toml, or sometimes [server directory]/config on Fabric and Quilt, and must be edited while the server is stopped so it is not overwritten on restart. Server admins can turn protection off entirely by disabling the main protection option in the server claim, expired claim, and default player configs, then removing claims.protectClaimedChunks from playerConfigurablePlayerConfigOptions so players cannot re-enable it themselves.
Party system and Xaero's map integration
Parties are created and managed through chat commands (/oparties, with /opm as a shortcut to party chat), not the UI. Server owners can turn on party-owned claims so a party's members share claiming rights and limits instead of one player owning everything. The mod's API is what Xaero's World Map and Xaero's Minimap use to draw claim borders; with World Map installed, players can view and edit claims directly on the map screen by right-clicking or drag-selecting, on top of the mod's own key-bound UI and chat commands.
Compatibility and known limits
Chunk protection covers most smaller mods automatically, but mods that add unusual world-altering mechanics are not guaranteed to be protected without extra configuration, and the project tracks compatibility requests on its GitHub issue tracker. The mod is still labeled beta upstream, so admins should read changelogs before jumping to a new build on a live server.

Questions about Open Parties and Claims.
5 questions
How do I disable or adjust chunk protection?
Turn off the main protection option in the server claim, expired claim, and default player configs inside openpartiesandclaims-server.toml while the server is stopped. To stop players from re-enabling it themselves, also remove claims.protectClaimedChunks from playerConfigurablePlayerConfigOptions. Exceptions for specific blocks, entities, or items are set separately in the same file.
Does every player need to install the mod?
No. Open Parties and Claims is required on the server, but the client install is optional. Protection and claim rules apply to every player regardless of whether they have the mod, and players without it can still manage their own claims and parties through server chat commands instead of the in-game UI.
How do claims show up on Xaero's maps?
Open Parties and Claims exposes an API that Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map use to draw claim borders. With World Map installed, players can view claims on the map screen and edit their own by right-clicking or drag-selecting, on top of the mod's key-bound menu and chat commands.
Which loaders and Minecraft versions does it support?
Fabric, Forge, and Quilt builds cover Minecraft 1.18.2 through 26.3. NeoForge support starts at 1.20.2, the version NeoForge itself launched on, and also reaches 26.3. Fabric and Quilt need Fabric API plus Forge Config API Port; Forge only needs Forge Config API Port from 1.20.4 onward.
Can parties share claim ownership on a server?
Yes, if the admin enables the partyOwnedClaims option. A party owner's claims are then treated as owned by the whole party, letting members with enough rank claim, unclaim, or edit the party's claim settings depending on the primary party system in use.
