What Polymorph works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, Forge, NeoForge |
| Minecraft versions | 1.15.2, 1.16.5, 1.17.1, 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.6, 1.21.1 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
The Polymorph mod solves recipe conflicts by letting you choose between every output that shares the same ingredients. It ships for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and it must be installed on both client and server.
Large modpacks often have two recipes that match the same ingredients. Normally the pack maker fixes this with datapacks. Polymorph lets all the recipes coexist instead, so nothing needs to be removed.
What Polymorph changes
- Crafting: when ingredients match more than one recipe, a button appears above the output slot. It lists every possible result, and your pick is remembered while the ingredients stay the same.
- Smelting: the same button appears, with the current result highlighted in green. The selection is saved to the block and persists across world loading and unloading.
- Smithing: works like the crafting screen, with a button above the output slot when an input has several outputs.
- Commands: /polymorph conflicts scans crafting, smelting, blasting, smoking and smithing recipes and writes the conflicts it finds to your logs folder.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric: 1.16.5 to 1.21.1. Most builds require Fabric API; the newest build lists no requirements.
- Forge: 1.15.2 to 1.21.1, no dependencies.
- NeoForge: 1.20 to 1.21.1, no dependencies.
- Quilt: builds stopped at 1.20.1, and the last one needs Quilted Fabric API or Quilt Standard Libraries.
Trade-offs
Polymorph does not remove conflicts, it exposes them. Players must pick the result by hand each time the ingredients change. The newest builds are marked beta, including 0.49.11 for 1.20.1 on Fabric and Forge and 1.2.0 for 1.21.1 on NeoForge.
Questions about Polymorph.
5 questions
What does the Polymorph mod do?
Polymorph lets you choose the output when several recipes use the same ingredients. A button appears above the output slot in crafting, smelting and smithing screens, listing every possible result. It removes the need for datapacks that delete conflicting recipes in large modpacks.
Does Polymorph work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, Polymorph is required on both the client and the server, so both sides need it installed. Use the build made for your loader and your exact Minecraft version, and place the mod's .jar file in the mods folder on each side before launching the game with the loader's profile.
Which Minecraft versions does Polymorph support?
Fabric builds cover 1.16.5 to 1.21.1, Forge covers 1.15.2 to 1.21.1, and NeoForge covers 1.20 to 1.21.1. Quilt builds stopped at 1.20.1. Pick the build matching both your loader and your exact game version.
Does Polymorph need Fabric API?
Most Fabric builds require Fabric API, though the newest listed build states no requirements. Forge and NeoForge builds list no dependencies. If you run Fabric, installing Fabric API alongside is the safe choice for the older builds.
How do I find recipe conflicts in my modpack?
Run the command /polymorph conflicts in game. It scans crafting, smelting, blasting, smoking and smithing recipes, tries to identify those that conflict, and writes the list to your logs folder.
