Prefab

Prefab places ready-made houses and structures into the world instantly, with a preview before you commit. It runs on Fabric and NeoForge and must be installed on both sides.

Prefab is a structure mod for Fabric and NeoForge with a collection of functional and aesthetic buildings you can place instantly. Pick a spot and the Prefab Blueprints do the rest, with no landscaping and no creeper undoing your work. It is required on both sides, so a multiplayer host and every player must install it.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.16.3 to 26.2. The newest build requires Cloth Config API, optionally Mod Menu; some builds for 1.18.2 to 26.1.2 require Cloth Config API and Mod Menu; some builds for 1.16.3 to 1.21.1 need no dependencies.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.2. The newest build requires Cloth Config API; some builds for 1.21.1 need no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.12.2 to 1.20.1, builds stopped after May 2025. The newest build needs no dependencies.

How the preview works

Every structure screen has a preview button. It creates a shadow structure in the world, so you can check that there is enough space and that it sits where you want, and you can move through the projection in real time. Facings on fences, torches and similar blocks usually look wrong in the preview but are correct once placed. The preview code was adapted from the Visualize feature in Botania, and the mod credits it.

Installing Prefab

  1. 1.Install Fabric or NeoForge for the release you want to play.
  2. 2.Download Prefab from Modrinth for that loader and release.
  3. 3.Add the dependencies listed above, such as Cloth Config API.
  4. 4.Put the mod files in the mods folder inside the .minecraft directory.
  5. 5.Launch with the loader's profile, on the host and on every player's install.

Community structures and translations

Players can submit their own designs for inclusion. A submission must use vanilla blocks or blocks the mod adds, comes with a saved world and a short description, and may be adjusted for balance or looks. Accepted authors are credited on the mod page. The interface has translations for Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Turkish, Italian, German, Finnish, French and Spanish.

Questions about Prefab.

3 questions

Can I load my own structures into Prefab?

No. Prefab only places the structures it ships with, plus community designs the creator accepts. There are no plans for custom blueprints or loading outside structures. The creator recommends Structurize for players who want that kind of feature.

Does Prefab work on multiplayer?

Yes, but it is required on both sides. The host must have it installed, and so must every player who joins.

Is there a Forge release of Prefab?

Forge releases exist for older Minecraft releases but stopped after May 2025. The Fabric page also points to CurseForge for the Forge files. For current releases, use Fabric or NeoForge.
