Moog's Soaring Structures is a worldgen mod that fills the sky with floating islands, each carrying buildings, dungeons, loot, enemies and villagers. It runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with an older Quilt line that has stopped. It is a server-side mod, so players joining a world do not need it on their own machines.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric and NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.3. The newest build requires Moog's Structure Lib (moogs_structures); some builds for 1.20 to 1.21.10 need no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.3. The newest build requires Moog's Structure Lib (moogs_structures); some builds for 1.20 to 1.20.6 need no dependencies.
  • Quilt: Minecraft 1.20 to 1.20.4, builds stopped after July 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What you find in the sky

Every structure is built from vanilla blocks and entities, which keeps the islands in step with the look of the base game.

  • Floating islands with buildings and dungeons to explore
  • Loot, enemies and villagers placed inside the structures
  • Compatible with any modpack
  • Full customisation through datapacks

Installation

Put the mod file in the mods folder of the server, matched to your loader and game release. If the build you pick lists Moog's Structure Lib, add that library in the same folder. New to loaders? Start with the guides to installing mods on Java Edition and setting up Fabric, or Forge and NeoForge.

Configuration and trade-offs

Every aspect of the mod is adjustable with datapacks, and the creator provides a config pack template with full instructions. The trade-off is scope. This is a structure mod, not a gameplay overhaul, so it adds places to find rather than new mechanics.

Questions about MSS - Moog's Soaring Structures.

3 questions

Do players need Moog's Soaring Structures installed to join a server?

No. The mod is required on the server and unsupported on the client, so players do not add it to their own machines. It can be installed on the server alone, and it is compatible with any modpack. Put it in the server's mods folder, matched to the loader and release the server runs.

Can I change how the floating islands generate?

Yes. Every aspect of the mod is customisable through datapacks, so the floating islands can be adjusted without editing code. A config pack template with full instructions is available for anyone starting out, and the mod's repository also links a wiki. Because the settings live in datapacks, they are applied on the server, where the mod runs.

Does Moog's Soaring Structures need a library mod?

The newest builds on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge require Moog's Structure Lib. Some older builds need no dependencies. Check the dependency list on the file you download and install the library alongside the mod when it is listed.
