Silent Gear

Silent Gear is a Forge and NeoForge mod for Minecraft Java that replaces the vanilla tool, weapon, and armor system with a blueprint-crafted alternative built from data pack materials. Every piece, head, binding, rod, or plate, gets its own material choice, so stats and traits come from what you build with instead of a fixed enchantment table. The mod requires Silent Lib and runs on both the client and the server, with NeoForge builds current through 26.1 and Forge stopping at 1.20.1.

Modular gear crafting with data packs

Crafting starts with a blueprint or a single-use template, which turns raw materials into a tool head, weapon part, or full armor piece. Combine that part with a rod, handle, or binding to finish the item, choosing a different material for each slot to trade off durability, mining speed, and combat stats. The base material list covers vanilla staples such as wood, stone, iron, and diamond plus two mod-original ores, crimson iron and azure silver, and every entry can be edited or extended with a data pack rather than a config file. The mod ships a Just Enough Items plugin that surfaces the common blueprint and template recipes for players unsure which parts a build needs.

Installing Silent Gear on Forge or NeoForge

1. 1.Install Forge or NeoForge for your target Minecraft version. Forge covers 1.20.1 and earlier, NeoForge covers 1.21 and later.
2. 2.Download Silent Lib from Modrinth for the same version and loader, and place it in your mods folder.
3. 3.Download Silent Gear from Modrinth for the same version and loader, and place it alongside Silent Lib.
4. 4.Launch the matching Forge or NeoForge profile. No extra configuration is needed for a solo world.

Multiplayer and server installation

Silent Gear runs on both the client and the server, so a multiplayer world needs the same Silent Lib and Silent Gear jars installed on the dedicated server as on every connecting client. Players joining without the mod will be rejected. Custom material data packs placed on the server apply the same way they do in a single-player world, so a server admin can add or remove materials without touching client files.

How Silent Gear compares to Tinkers' Construct

Silent Gear and Tinkers' Construct are both modular tool and armor mods for Forge and NeoForge where the material you choose for each part decides the finished stats, and players moving between the two will recognize the general shape. The mods diverge on how gear gets made. Tinkers' Construct centers on a smeltery that melts ores into alloys for casting, plus a Modifier Worktable for stacking enchantment-like upgrades after the fact. Silent Gear skips the smeltery entirely: blueprints and templates turn raw materials straight into parts, and the whole material list is meant to be read and edited directly through a data pack rather than discovered through world generation. Neither replaces the other outright, they solve the same modular-gear itch with different crafting chains.
