Tetra is a Minecraft Java mod that replaces static tools and weapons with modular equipment. You assemble a head, handle, and binding at an in-game workbench, then swap or upgrade individual parts as you find better materials and blueprints. It runs on Forge and NeoForge for Minecraft 1.19 through 1.20.1, and needs to be installed on both the client and the server.
How the modular workbench and holosphere work
The workbench is where modification happens. Combine a head, handle, and optional binding into a tool or weapon, then apply upgrades such as serrated edges, extra durability, or elemental effects as long as the item has free integrity capacity. The holosphere, an item unlocked early through Tetra's own advancement tabs, tracks every module, upgrade, and material you have discovered so far, so you can plan a build before you go gather the parts.
- Hone system: repeated use of a tool slowly improves a stat of your choosing.
- Integrity usage: each upgrade consumes integrity capacity, and stronger materials raise that ceiling.
- Tool tier gates: some upgrades need a matching tier tool, such as a tier 3 hammer, before they can be applied.
- Ancient structures and trading unlock rarer modules, materials, and blueprints.
Installing Tetra on Forge or NeoForge
Tetra requires Mutil alongside it. Mutil is a shared utility library the mod depends on, not an optional add-on, so Tetra will not load without it. Download matching Forge or NeoForge builds of both mods for your Minecraft version from Modrinth, then install them the same way on every machine that needs to run the mod.
- 1.Install Forge or NeoForge for a Minecraft version between 1.19 and 1.20.1.
- 2.Download Tetra and its required dependency, Mutil, for the same loader and version.
- 3.Place both jar files in the mods folder on the client and on the server.
- 4.Launch the game once so Tetra can generate its configuration and advancement data.
Compatibility, multiplayer, and version support
Tetra is required on both sides for multiplayer. A server missing the mod will not accept a client running it, and a client missing the mod cannot join a server that requires it. The current release, build 6.17.0 published August 3, 2026, is the newest available for both Forge and NeoForge.
Tetra basics walkthrough
Questions about Tetra.
5 questions
What does Tetra do in Minecraft?
Tetra replaces static tools and weapons with modular equipment. You build a head, handle, and binding at a workbench, then upgrade individual parts with new materials, enchantment slots, and abilities as you explore and fight.
How do I install Tetra?
Install Forge or NeoForge first, then download Tetra and its required dependency, Mutil, for the same loader and Minecraft version. Place both jar files in the mods folder on the client and on the server, then launch once to let Tetra generate its data.
Does Tetra work with both Forge and NeoForge?
Yes. Tetra publishes separate builds for Forge and NeoForge, and both currently reach Minecraft 1.20.1 as their newest supported version, using the same 6.17.0 release.
Does Tetra need to be installed on the server?
Yes. Tetra is required on both the client and the server for multiplayer. A mismatched setup, where only one side has the mod, will block the connection.
Which Minecraft version does Tetra support?
Tetra's builds cover Minecraft 1.19 through 1.20.1 on both Forge and NeoForge. Neither loader has a build for a newer Minecraft version as of the latest release.
