Stony Cliffs Are Cool turns the steep dirt slopes vanilla Overworld generation leaves behind into stone cliff faces, adding a placed feature to every biome tagged as part of the Overworld. It runs on Forge, NeoForge, and Fabric, reaching up to Minecraft 1.21.4. Generation happens server-side, so only the server needs the jar installed; joining clients pick up the terrain without it.

How to install Stony Cliffs Are Cool

The project ships two separate jar families rather than one universal file. The plain Forge and NeoForge build, labeled FML, has no dependencies and installs like any other loader mod. A second build adds Fabric support alongside Forge and NeoForge, but it requires Lithostitched 1.2.4 or later running on the same side.

  • Forge or NeoForge without Fabric support: download the FML jar and drop it in mods, no extra dependency needed.
  • Forge, NeoForge, or Fabric with the Lithostitched build: install Lithostitched 1.2.4 or later first, then add the Stony Cliffs Are Cool jar.
  • Server: install it there, since the cliff generation happens during chunk generation on the server.
  • Client: optional. Players joining a server that has it installed see the terrain without installing the mod themselves.

Which Minecraft version does it support

All three loaders reach the same ceiling of Minecraft 1.21.4, but they do not start at the same floor. The FML build covers Forge and NeoForge from 1.19 onward. The Lithostitched build, which brings in Fabric, only goes back to 1.20.1. Both builds landed as version 1.1.2 in mid-2024, a few weeks apart.

Not a vanilla data pack, despite the name

The very first release in November 2023 was tagged as a data pack on Modrinth, but its own listing says plainly that it will not work in vanilla and still needs the Forge or NeoForge mod loader running underneath. Every release since then dropped the data pack label entirely and ships as an ordinary loader mod. Anyone who found this page searching for a drag-and-drop data pack should expect a mod install instead, either the dependency-free FML jar or the Lithostitched build.

Questions about Stony Cliffs Are Cool.

5 questions

How do I install Stony Cliffs Are Cool?

Pick one of two jars. The FML build works on Forge or NeoForge alone with no extra dependency. The Lithostitched build adds Fabric support across all three loaders but needs Lithostitched 1.2.4 or later installed first. Install it on the server; the client copy is optional.

Does Stony Cliffs Are Cool work with Fabric?

Yes, through the Lithostitched build. Fabric was not supported in the original FML-only release, and the Fabric jar still requires Lithostitched 1.2.4 or later on the same side. Fabric support only reaches back to Minecraft 1.20.1, not the earlier 1.19.x versions the Forge build covers.

Which Minecraft version does Stony Cliffs Are Cool support?

Forge and NeoForge reach up to 1.21.4 and go back to 1.19. Fabric also reaches 1.21.4 but only goes back to 1.20.1, since Fabric support arrived later through the Lithostitched build. The project has not published a build past 1.21.4 as of mid-2026.

Is Stony Cliffs Are Cool actually a data pack?

Not anymore. The first release in 2023 was tagged as a data pack on Modrinth, but the listing itself says it will not work in vanilla and still needs Forge or NeoForge. Every release since dropped that label and ships as a regular loader mod.

Does Stony Cliffs Are Cool require Lithostitched?

Only for the build that includes Fabric support, which also runs on Forge and NeoForge. The separate FML jar for Forge and NeoForge has no dependencies at all, so Lithostitched is only needed if that specific build is the one installed.
