Oh The Biomes We've Gone, commonly called BYG after the project's original name Oh The Biomes You'll Go, is a world generation mod for Minecraft Java Edition. It adds over 50 new biomes to the Overworld, Nether, and End, each with custom trees, plants, terrain shapes, ambient sounds, building blocks, structures, and exclusive mobs. The mod runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt and supports Minecraft 1.20.1 through 1.21.11.
What Oh The Biomes We've Gone Changes In-Game
New biomes generate throughout every dimension. In the Overworld you find places such as the Ironwood Gour (a gorge biome with towering ironwood trees), Skyris Vale (pale terrain of sky-reaching stone pillars), Allium Shrubland (rolling hills covered in purple flowers), and Pale Bog (a misty wetland added in the 1.21.1 update). The Nether and End also receive BYG biomes with matching block palettes, tree variants, and ambient lighting.
Beyond terrain, the mod introduces new wood types, stone variants, flowers, plants, and mob spawns tied to specific biomes. These blocks work in crafting and can be collected naturally or in creative mode.
Required Dependencies
Oh The Biomes We've Gone will not load without four companion libraries. Download each at the same Minecraft version and loader as BYG before launching:
- Oh The Trees You'll Grow (required): handles custom tree generation for BYG biomes
- TerraBlender (required): manages biome distribution and lets BYG share world generation with other biome mods
- CorgiLib (required): general utility library used by BYG for data loading and registration
- GeckoLib (required): powers animated mob models added by certain BYG biomes
How to Install Oh The Biomes We've Gone
- 1.Install a compatible loader (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt) for your Minecraft version.
- 2.Download Oh The Biomes We've Gone from Modrinth or CurseForge, choosing the file that matches your loader.
- 3.Download all four required dependencies listed above, each matching the same Minecraft version and loader.
- 4.Place all five JARs in the mods folder inside your Minecraft profile directory.
- 5.Create a new world. BYG biomes only generate in worlds created after the mod is active; adding it to an existing world will not affect already-generated chunks.
Compatibility with Other World Generation Mods
TerraBlender, one of BYG's required dependencies, is designed to let multiple biome mods share world generation without overwriting each other. This means Oh The Biomes We've Gone can run in the same world alongside Biomes O' Plenty, Regions Unexplored, Terralith, and similar mods. The biome distribution will shift depending on which combination you use, so generating a test world before starting a long-term save is a good idea.
For multiplayer, BYG must be installed on both the client and the server, along with all four required dependencies. All connecting clients need the same version active.

Questions about this entry.
Is Oh The Biomes We've Gone the same as Oh The Biomes You'll Go (BYG)?
Yes. The project was originally named Oh The Biomes You'll Go and shortened to BYG. It was renamed to Oh The Biomes We've Gone starting with the 1.20.1 port. Community members still use BYG as shorthand, and both names refer to the same mod and Modrinth page.
How do I install Oh The Biomes We've Gone?
Download the mod from Modrinth or CurseForge along with its four required dependencies: Oh The Trees You'll Grow, TerraBlender, CorgiLib, and GeckoLib. Place all five JARs in your mods folder with a compatible loader installed. Start a new world to see BYG biomes generate.
Does Oh The Biomes We've Gone work with Fabric and Forge?
Yes. The mod supports Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt. Download the JAR that matches your loader from the Modrinth or CurseForge files tab. Make sure all four required dependencies also match the same loader and Minecraft version.
Can Oh The Biomes We've Gone run alongside Terralith or Biomes O' Plenty?
Generally yes. BYG ships with TerraBlender as a required dependency, which is designed to let multiple biome mods coexist in the same world. Test a fresh world before committing to a long-term save, as the biome balance shifts when you combine several world generation mods.
Which Minecraft versions does Oh The Biomes We've Gone support?
The mod officially supports 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.4, 1.21.8, 1.21.10, and 1.21.11 across Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt. Check the Modrinth or CurseForge files tab for the latest available build.
