From Thaumcraft 4 to Thaumcraft 6
Thaumcraft has gone through three major versions since Azanor started the project. Thaumcraft 4 defined the mod for Minecraft 1.7.10: an Iron Capped Wooden Wand, a Thaumonomicon that teaches research, and vis nodes scattered across the world for players to tap. Thaumcraft 5 carried that structure into 1.8.9 with refinements rather than a rebuild.
Thaumcraft 6, covering Minecraft 1.10.2 and 1.12.2, changed the core loop. The Caster's Gauntlet replaced the classic wand and draws vis directly from a chunk's aura instead of an internal charge, aura became a live resource that depletes and needs restoring, and research moved to per-category theorycraft minigames. The Eldritch content line, the mod's darker late-game branch, now requires exploration and accumulated warp instead of an early unlock. Players coming from Thaumcraft 4 guides should expect a different mid-game, not just new coats of paint.
