Ars Nouveau is a Minecraft Java Edition magic mod for Forge and NeoForge that puts a fully customizable spell system in your hands. Combine glyphs at an Enchanting Apparatus to craft unique spell books, summon arcane familiars, and build magical automation devices. It runs on both client and server and supports Minecraft from 1.18.2 through 1.21.1.

Spell Crafting and the Glyph System

The core of Ars Nouveau is its glyph-based spell crafting. Each glyph represents a spell component: a shape (such as projectile or area of effect), an augment (range, duration, or potency), or an effect (fire, freeze, heal). You combine glyphs on the Enchanting Apparatus using Source Gems and crafting ingredients to produce a spell book, then bind it to a wand or staff. Because the combinations are open-ended, a single playthrough can produce entirely different spell sets depending on which glyphs you pursue.

Familiars and Arcane Automation

Beyond combat spells, Ars Nouveau adds magical familiars that follow you, gather resources, and fight alongside you. The mod also includes arcane automation blocks: Source Jars collect and store the magical energy called Source, Spell Turrets fire automated spell bursts at targets or items, and the Enchanting Apparatus doubles as a high-tier crafting station for advanced recipes. These blocks integrate naturally into long-term base designs and factory-style setups without breaking the magic theme.

Basic Spell Guide for Ars Nouveau

Questions about this entry.

  • How do I install Ars Nouveau?

Download the Ars Nouveau .jar from Modrinth and place it in your .minecraft/mods folder alongside a working Forge or NeoForge installation for your Minecraft version. Both the client and server need the mod since it is not client-side-only.

  • Does Ars Nouveau work with Forge or NeoForge?

Yes. Ars Nouveau supports Forge (through Minecraft 1.20.1) and NeoForge (from 1.20.1 through 1.21.1). It does not have a Fabric or Quilt version. Check the Modrinth project page for the exact loader and version combinations currently available.

  • Which Minecraft version does Ars Nouveau support?

Ars Nouveau supports Minecraft 1.18.2, 1.19.2, 1.19.3, 1.19.4, 1.20.1, 1.21, and 1.21.1 across its release history. The latest release targets NeoForge on 1.21.1.

  • Does Ars Nouveau work on multiplayer servers?

Yes, but the mod must be installed on both the client and the server. Spell effects, familiar behavior, and automation blocks are server-side and will not function correctly if only the client has the mod installed.

  • Will removing Ars Nouveau corrupt my world?

Removing any magic mod with placed blocks from an existing save will leave orphaned data, which can cause chunk errors in areas where Ars Nouveau blocks were placed. Back up your world before adding or removing the mod to avoid losing progress.
