The Graveyard mod fills the Overworld with burial grounds and the dead that leave them. It runs on Fabric and NeoForge and has to be installed on both sides in multiplayer. Expect small graves, crypts under the caves, a haunted house, burnt villages and a boss prison far above the ocean.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 1.21.8. The newest build requires Geckolib, VillagersTradingPlus and Fabric API; some builds for 1.20.1 to 1.20.4 require Geckolib; some builds for 1.18.2 to 1.20.1 require Fabric API; some builds for 1.19.2 to 1.19.3 require Geckolib and Fabric API.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 1.21.8. The newest build requires Geckolib and VillagersTradingPlus.

What it adds to the world

Small graves appear in plains, deserts, savannas and on mountains. Larger graveyards sit in forests and taigas, a haunted house rots in dark forests, and a crypt winds through cave biomes between Y -40 and -10. The Corrupted Champion waits in a prison at Y 210 above deep and frozen oceans.

Overrun villages are charred vanilla villages with smoldering embers, skeletons, corrupted illagers on guard and flocks of crows. A Chronicle of 36 pages, hidden in chests across the structures, tells what happened.

Mobs and blocks

  • Ghoul, Revenant and Nightmare roam at night. Ghouls and Revenants burn in daylight.
  • Skeleton Creeper swells before it explodes, and by default the blast breaks no blocks.
  • Tormented Villagers wander overrun villages at night. Weapons do nothing, but ringing a bell within 48 blocks redeems them for experience.
  • Crows eat crops and keep away from scarecrows. Magpies steal shiny items and drop them when hit.
  • A bone staff raises a Ghouling that fights for you and carries 54 slots once given a coffin or sarcophagus.
  • Building blocks include gravestones in 13 stone types, coffins in 11 woods, urns, dark iron and charred wood. The Reaper is off by default and can be enabled in the config.

Installation

Pick the loader that matches your world. Fabric players also need Fabric API, and both loaders rely on GeckoLib. The current release needs Java 21. If you are new to loaders, the Fabric setup guide covers the basics.

Questions about The Graveyard.

3 questions

How do I redeem a Tormented Villager?

Ring a bell within 48 blocks of the villager. It is freed and you receive experience. Weapons cannot hurt it, and if nobody rings a bell it fades away at dawn, so you need to be near a bell before night falls in an overrun village.

How do I keep crows away from my crops?

Build a scarecrow. A carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on a hay bale with a fence next to or under the bale works, as does an armor stand wearing a pumpkin. Crows fly in flocks, eat crops and scatter when startled.

Do Skeleton Creepers destroy my builds?

Not by default. The Skeleton Creeper swells before it explodes, but its blast does not break blocks in the default config. It can still hurt you, so keep your distance when you hear it approach.
