YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments replaces Minecraft Java's ocean monument with a completely new set of room layouts, corridors, and structural details. Every monument generates with a fresh arrangement of chambers instead of the predictable fixed grid in vanilla, so each raid feels like a distinct encounter rather than a memorized floor plan.

What the Mod Changes

The monument footprint stays roughly the same size and spawns in the same ocean biomes as vanilla, but the internal structure is rebuilt from scratch. New room types vary in size and shape, guardian patrol routes span more interesting geometry, and prismarine detailing extends through rooms and corridors that vanilla leaves bare. The elder guardian wing remains near the center, but the surrounding layout changes per monument so prior knowledge of the vanilla layout no longer gives you a map.

  • New room types replace the vanilla fixed-grid layout
  • Varied corridor heights and shapes throughout the structure
  • Extended prismarine detailing in rooms vanilla leaves empty
  • Elder guardian placement preserved at the monument center
  • Each monument generates a unique arrangement, not a fixed template

Installation and Required Dependencies

This mod requires three libraries before it will load. Missing any of them prevents the game from starting and logs a missing dependency error.

  1. 1.Download YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments from Modrinth for your loader and Minecraft version
  2. 2.Download YUNG's API (required by all YUNG's mods, available on Modrinth)
  3. 3.Download Cloth Config API (required for in-game configuration support)
  4. 4.Fabric only: download Fabric API; Forge and NeoForge users skip this step
  5. 5.Place all JARs in your mods folder and launch the game

Loader and Version Support

Separate JAR releases are published for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge. Each JAR targets one loader; do not place Fabric and Forge JARs in the same instance. The mod supports Minecraft 1.19.2 through 1.21.4, with the most recent release targeting 1.21.4 on Fabric.

Server-Only: What That Means for Multiplayer

YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments runs entirely on the server, or in singleplayer where the game acts as its own server. Clients connecting to a multiplayer server do not need the mod installed to join. If you add the mod to an existing world, only monuments in newly generated chunks will use the overhauled layout; already-explored chunks keep their original vanilla structure.

Questions about this entry.

  • How do I install YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments?

Download the correct JAR for your loader (Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge) and Minecraft version from Modrinth. Add it to your mods folder along with YUNG's API and Cloth Config API. Fabric users also need Fabric API. Launch the game and check the console for missing dependency errors before loading a world.

  • Does YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments work with Forge?

Yes. Separate JAR files are published for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge on Modrinth. Download the release matching your loader. Forge and NeoForge users do not need Fabric API, but YUNG's API and Cloth Config API are required on all loaders.

  • Do I need to start a new world to see the new ocean monuments?

New monuments only appear in chunks generated after you install the mod. In an existing world, already-explored ocean biomes keep the original vanilla monument layout. Starting a new world guarantees every monument uses the overhauled design.

  • Is YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments client-side or server-side?

Server-side only. Monument generation runs on the server, so players connecting to a multiplayer server do not need this mod installed on their client to see the new structures. Only the server owner or singleplayer host needs it installed.

  • Does YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments conflict with other structure mods?

It generally works alongside other structure mods since it targets a single structure type. Mods that also modify ocean monuments directly may conflict. Check the compatibility notes on the mod's Modrinth page before combining it with another ocean monument overhaul.
