The BentoBox plugin is a platform for island-style game modes on Paper and Purpur servers. You pick the game modes you want, add them as addons, and run several on one server with shared features. It is server-side only, so players join with a normal client.
Server software and versions
- Paper: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Purpur: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Spigot: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 1.21.4, builds stopped after January 2025. The newest build needs no dependencies.
Game modes and addons
BentoBox itself is the framework. The play experience comes from game mode addons, and the creator lists these as the main ones:
- BSkyBlock, classic SkyBlock and successor to the original ASkyBlock.
- AOneBlock, the OneBlock experience.
- AcidIsland, survival on an island in a sea of acid.
- Boxed, where you expand your world by completing advancements.
- CaveBlock, SkyGrid and Poseidon, covering underground survival, scattered blocks and underwater islands.
Community-made game modes exist too. Shared features such as challenges, warps, levels and leaderboards work across the game modes, and 20+ addons let you shape the setup. Developers get an API for writing their own addons.

Questions about BentoBox.
4 questions
How do I install BentoBox on a server?
Place the BentoBox jar in the plugins folder and start the server. Then download the game mode and feature addons you want, put them in plugins/BentoBox/addons, and restart. BentoBox alone adds the framework, and the addons supply the actual game modes.
Does BentoBox work on Spigot?
Older builds did, but Spigot builds stopped after January 2025 and the creator says only Paper is supported now. Purpur builds are also published. For a current setup, run Paper or Purpur.
Which game modes does BentoBox offer?
The listed game modes are BSkyBlock, AOneBlock, AcidIsland, Boxed, CaveBlock, SkyGrid and Poseidon. Community-created game modes are available as well. Several can run on one server and share features like challenges, warps, levels and leaderboards.
Do players need to install BentoBox?
No. BentoBox is a server plugin and does not support client installation. Players join the server with a normal client, while the server owner installs the plugin and any addons.
