BetterStructures is a Minecraft server plugin for Paper, Purpur and Spigot that adds hand-crafted schematic structures and modular dungeons to world generation. It works on the server only, so players join normally with nothing to install. It fits any world generator and places content only in newly generated chunks.
Server software and versions
- Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.14 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally Free Minecraft Models, ResourcePackManager and EliteMobs.
What it adds
- Structures on the surface, underground, in the sky and on liquid surfaces, with rules for terrain, biomes, worlds and spacing.
- Randomly assembled modular dungeons alongside standalone WorldEdit schematics.
- Chests and barrels with randomized loot, including per-schematic treasure overrides, plus optional vanilla mob spawns inside.
- Custom items support, and props and furniture when paired with the BetterStructures Prop Pack.
- Boss fights through EliteMobs, with MMOItems and MythicMobs integrations also available.
Installation
- 1.Install WorldEdit, then place BetterStructures in the plugins folder (see the plugin install guide if you are new to this).
- 2.Start the server and run /bs initialize in-game as an administrator.
- 3.Pick the worlds and content you want. /bs setup reopens content management later.
- 4.Explore new terrain to find structures.
Performance and trade-offs
The creator describes it as fast and lightweight, with no noticeable impact while exploring. Chunk load is driven mostly by view distance, so check it in server.properties. Low-end servers should have roughly 3 GB of RAM available for the whole server, or pregenerate the world so structures are baked in.
The catch is that structures appear only in new chunks. Installing a pack never fills terrain you have already explored, and a pregenerated world cannot take new packs without generating a fresh one. Packs aimed at EliteMobs, such as Shrines and Caves & Lost Civilizations, need that plugin installed.

How do I install BetterStructures?
Put the plugin in your plugins folder next to WorldEdit and restart the server. Then run /bs initialize in-game as an administrator, choose your worlds and content packs, and explore new terrain. /bs setup reopens content management whenever you want to add or change packs.
Will BetterStructures add structures to chunks I already explored?
No. It generates structures only in new chunks, and installing a pack does not populate existing terrain retroactively. To see structures in an old world, you need to explore ungenerated areas or start with a freshly generated world.
Does BetterStructures hurt server performance?
The creator reports no noticeable impact while players explore. Chunk generation still costs more at high view distances, so keep that setting reasonable. Pregenerating the world with the plugin installed leaves structures in the map, after which the plugin uses essentially no power.
