Free Minecraft Models is a free model plugin for Paper, Purpur and Spigot that puts custom models into your world without mods on the player side. It reads Blockbench models, builds a resource pack from them and spawns them as furniture, props and holdable items. It is Java only and required on the server.
Server software and versions
- Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.18 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally BetterStructures, ResourcePackManager and EliteMobs.
- Bukkit: Minecraft 1.18 to 1.21.8, builds stopped after September 2025. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it does
Its largest showcase is the Yggdrasil project. Creators can distribute models in the uneditable FMM format, so shared content stays locked.
- Imports .bbmodel files directly, or the optimized .fmmodel format, and bypasses the usual vanilla limits on model size and rotation.
- Three entity types: static decorations, dynamic disguises for living entities, and persistent props placed in the world.
- Custom items from any model with a material field, with optional Lua scripting for props and items (sit, sleep, store and more).
- Player disguises, rideable seats from mount_ bones, and oriented hitboxes that rotate with the model.
- Craftable-item browser for players, an admin model browser, and an in-game recipe builder for props.
- Display models for 3D item rendering on 1.21.4 and newer, including bow and crossbow draw states.
Setting it up
The plugin has no dependencies, so setup is short. If you have not added a plugin before, the plugin installation guide covers the basics.
- 1.Put FreeMinecraftModels.jar in the plugins folder and restart the server.
- 2.Put the content you want from the additional downloads, without unzipping, into the ~plugins/EternalTD/imports folder.
- 3.Run /fmm reload or restart again. A restart is the safer choice.
- 4.Collect the generated resource pack from the outputs folder in the plugin's configuration folder. It holds every model in the models folder.
Optional companions
The plugin runs alone. For a richer setup it pairs with BetterStructures, EliteMobs and Resource Pack Manager, all free. Documentation lives on the creator's wiki, and bugs go to the GitHub issue tracker.
Questions about Free Minecraft Models.
4 questions
Do players need mods to see Free Minecraft Models content?
No. The plugin runs only on the server and turns Blockbench models into a resource pack, without client-side mods. Players do not install the plugin; they join the server as usual. The plugin spawns the furniture, props and items in the world using display entities.
Can I import my own Blockbench models?
Yes. The plugin reads .bbmodel files directly and also accepts the optimized .fmmodel format. Imported models go into the generated resource pack, and creators can share them in the uneditable FMM format so others cannot modify them.
Can furniture and items be scripted?
Yes. Props and custom items support Lua scripting through the MagmaCore scripting engine. Scripts can make furniture usable, for example to sit, sleep or store things. Models with a material field become placeable or holdable items.
How do I install Free Minecraft Models?
Put FreeMinecraftModels.jar in your server's plugins folder and restart. Add any downloaded content, without unzipping it, to the ~plugins/EternalTD/imports folder, then run /fmm reload or restart again. The resource pack appears in the outputs folder of the plugin's configuration folder.
