CraftEngine is a server-side framework for custom items, blocks, furniture and recipes, run as a plugin on Paper, Folia, Purpur, Spigot and Bukkit. Players join with an unmodded game, and the plugin intercepts packets to deliver custom content through a generated resource pack. Install it on the server only.
Server software and versions
- Bukkit and Spigot: Minecraft 26.1 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Folia, Paper and Purpur: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it adds
- Items and equipment. Full NBT and component support, with custom names, lore, enchantments, attributes and food properties. Armor uses components (1.21.2+) or trims (1.20+), with dyeable layers, multiple textures and 3D helmet models.
- Real blocks. CraftEngine registers new blocks instead of reskinning vanilla ones, so datapacks keep working and custom logs do not decay connected leaves. More than 30 built-in behaviors cover crops, strippable logs and seats.
- Furniture. Rotatable, entity-based pieces that do not snap to the grid, built on item and text displays. It works with BetterModel and ModelEngine.
- Recipes. Shaped, shapeless, smelting, smithing and brewing, plus result post-processors, visual crafting results and conditional logic.
Setup and configuration
Drop the plugin file into the plugins folder and restart, as described in our plugin installation guide. Content is defined in structured YAML with templates, release-conditional logic and multilingual support, so no coding is needed.
Models and textures go into an automatically generated resource pack, which can be hosted on S3, Dropbox, Lobfile or a custom API. It also integrates with WorldEdit and PlaceholderAPI, and can pull in items from other item libraries. The latest builds list no required dependencies.
Questions about CraftEngine.
4 questions
Do players need to install mods for CraftEngine?
No. CraftEngine runs only on the server and uses packet interception to deliver custom items, blocks and furniture to unmodded players. Custom models and textures come from the resource pack the plugin generates and distributes.
Does CraftEngine work on Folia?
Yes. Folia is listed among the supported server software, alongside Paper, Purpur, Spigot and Bukkit. Folia, Paper and Purpur cover the widest range of Minecraft releases, while Bukkit and Spigot cover the newer ones.
Does CraftEngine need other plugins to run?
No. The newest builds list no required dependencies for any supported server software. WorldEdit, PlaceholderAPI, BetterModel and ModelEngine are optional integrations you can add if you want their features alongside CraftEngine.
Does CraftEngine affect server performance?
The creator describes chunk caching, compression and efficient injection methods meant to keep server overhead low.
