ChatManager is a chat management plugin for Folia, Paper and Purpur, described by its author as the kitchen sink of chat management. It filters advertising, spam, caps, swearing and special characters, and adds scheduled broadcasts and per-group chat formats. It is required on the server only. Players install nothing and join as usual.

Server software and versions

  • Folia, Paper and Purpur: Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally PlaceholderAPI.

What it filters

  • Anti-advertising blocks server ads in chat, commands and on signs, with a URL whitelist and staff alerts.
  • Anti-swear catches words run together or split by spaces, and lets you add or remove words in game.
  • Anti-spam stops repeated messages and commands, with a delay between each.
  • Anti-caps sets a minimum message length and a cap percentage, then lowercases the message.
  • Anti-Unicode blocks special characters that could slip past the advertising and swear checks.
  • Anti-bot attack holds chat and commands until a joining player moves.
  • Banned commands can be edited in game, and most filters can run a command on the offender.

Broadcasts and chat formats

Auto-broadcast messages live in AutoBroadcast.yml. They can go out globally or per world, through chat, action bar, title or boss bar, each with its own prefix, interval and optional sound. The /broadcast, /announcement and /warning commands cover manual messages. Chat formats are set per group and follow each player's permission group, so a permissions plugin such as LuckPerms pairs naturally. Colour codes and hex colours in chat sit behind permissions.

Installation

  1. 1.Get the file from Modrinth or Hangar for your release.
  2. 2.Use at least Paper, as the plugin requires it.
  3. 3.Place the file in the plugins folder. The plugin install guide covers the steps.
  4. 4.Add LuckPerms and Vault, as the install notes suggest.
  5. 5.Restart the server, then read the documentation at docs.crazycrew.us.

Questions about ChatManager.

4 questions

How do I install ChatManager?

Put the plugin file in the plugins folder of a Paper, Purpur or Folia server, then restart. The author's notes also suggest adding LuckPerms and Vault. Players need nothing installed. Configuration and command details are in the documentation at docs.crazycrew.us.

Does ChatManager work on Folia?

Yes. Folia is one of the three server programs its builds list, alongside Paper and Purpur. The newest release covers the same Minecraft range on all three, so the choice depends on which one your server already runs.

Which Minecraft releases does ChatManager support?

Its Folia, Paper and Purpur files cover Minecraft 1.21.1 to 26.2. The newest release needs no other plugins, and PlaceholderAPI is optional. Older releases of the plugin target earlier ranges, so pick the file that matches your server.

Can ChatManager block advertising and swearing?

Yes. It blocks advertising in chat, commands and on signs, and swear words even when they are joined or spaced out. Staff get notified and a command can run on the offender. Raising sensitivity catches more, but it can flag innocent messages.
