FeatherMorph is a morph plugin for survival servers on Paper and Folia. An older Purpur line also exists, but its updates have ended. Players disguise as mobs and other players, then use skills tied to the chosen form. It is a server-side plugin, so players join with an ordinary setup.
Server software and versions
- Folia: Minecraft 1.20.2 to 1.21.11. The newest build requires PacketEvents; some builds for 1.21 to 1.21.4 need no dependencies; builds for 1.20.2 to 1.21 need no dependencies.
- Paper: Minecraft 1.19.3 to 1.21.11. The newest build requires PacketEvents; some builds for 1.19.3 to 1.21.9 need no dependencies; some builds for 1.20.2 require FeatherMorphClient.
- Purpur: Minecraft 1.19.3 to 1.21.4, builds stopped after January 2025. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.20.2 require FeatherMorphClient.
What it does
The disguise abilities aim to cover most vanilla behaviour for each form. Messages are translatable and accept MiniMessage formatting. Two extras suit player disguises.
- ChatOverride masks your real name when you chat while disguised as a player.
- InteractionMirror makes the player you imitate repeat the actions you perform.
- An optional FeatherMorphClient integration mod adds a GUI for picking disguises, action hotkeys, and a view of your own disguise.
Installation
- 1.Pick a release that matches your server software and Minecraft release.
- 2.Install the dependency that release needs. Current 2.x releases rely on PacketEvents to display disguises.
- 3.Place the plugin file in the plugins folder and restart the server.
The older 1.x line used ProtocolLib instead, and the 0.x line also needed LibsDisguises. For general steps, see the guide on installing plugins on a Paper or Spigot server.
Trade-offs
Changing a player's bounding box to match the disguise requires the integration mod. The developers use NMS and newer APIs, so they only supported the latest one or two Minecraft releases at a time. Check that your release matches before you commit a survival world to it.
Questions about FeatherMorph.
4 questions
Does FeatherMorph work on Folia?
Yes. Folia has its own FeatherMorph releases, and the newest one needs PacketEvents. Older Folia releases for earlier Minecraft releases need no dependencies. Check the supported range listed on this page for your exact release before installing.
Do players need a mod to use FeatherMorph?
It depends on the build. The FeatherMorphClient integration mod is optional for most builds and adds a disguise selection screen, action hotkeys and a view of your own disguise. Changing the player's bounding box to fit the disguise depends on it, and a couple of Paper builds for 1.20.2 require it.
Is FeatherMorph still maintained?
The creator has archived the project and says you are free to fork it. They also note that little documentation exists, so anyone forking it should expect to learn the code. The Purpur line has not been updated since January 2025.
Which dependency does FeatherMorph need?
It needs a Paper or Paper-based server. Current 2.x releases also need PacketEvents to show disguises. The older 1.x line used ProtocolLib, and the 0.x line used LibsDisguises together with ProtocolLib. Match the dependency to the release you choose.
