BetterBounty

A bounty plugin modelled on DonutSMP's system. Players set bounties from a paginated GUI, and the killer is paid automatically through Vault.

Minecraft versions1.19, 1.19.4, 1.20.6, 1.21.11

BetterBounty is a bounty plugin for Folia, Paper and Purpur servers. Players put money on each other's heads through a clean GUI, and the killer is paid automatically when the target dies. It copies the bounty system of DonutSMP and runs on the server side only, so players install nothing.

Server software and versions

  • Folia, Paper and Purpur: Minecraft 1.19 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies, optionally PlaceholderAPI.

What players get

  • A paginated bounty GUI with player heads, refresh, search and sort controls.
  • Name search through in-game sign input.
  • Sorting that cycles through amount, recently set and name.
  • A confirmation GUI before any new bounty is placed.
  • Money withdrawn the moment a bounty is set and deposited to the killer on a kill. Self-kills pay nothing.

Only players can add bounties, not the console. A target must have joined the server at least once to be referenced. Names and skins refresh on join, which keeps sorting and visuals accurate.

Installation

  1. 1.Install Vault and a Vault-compatible economy plugin.
  2. 2.Place the BetterBounty plugin file in the plugins folder of a server running Java 21.
  3. 3.Start the server once to generate the config.
  4. 4.Edit plugins/BetterBounty/config.yml, then run /bounty reload.

Commands and permissions

  • /bounty or /bounties opens the bounties GUI (players only).
  • /bounty add starts the confirmation flow to add to a bounty (players only).
  • /bounty remove clears a player's bounty, with no manual database editing. Needs bounty.remove.
  • /bounty reload reloads the config. Needs bounty.reload.
  • betterbounty.updatecheck sends update notifications on join.

Configuration and data

Every message and GUI text uses MiniMessage formatting, hex colours included. Bounties are stored in an SQLite file at plugins/BetterBounty/database.db, saved every 15 minutes and again on shutdown. The plugin sends anonymous bStats statistics, which can be switched off in plugins/bStats/config.yml.

Questions about BetterBounty.

4 questions

How do I install BetterBounty?

Install Vault and an economy plugin first, then put the BetterBounty plugin file in the plugins folder of a Java 21 server running Paper, Folia or Purpur. Start the server to generate plugins/BetterBounty/config.yml, adjust it, and run /bounty reload to apply changes.

Does BetterBounty work on Folia?

Yes. It uses FoliaLib schedulers and is marked as Folia supported. Folia, Paper and Purpur all have builds listed for it, so the same plugin covers all three.

Does BetterBounty need Vault?

Yes. The creator lists Vault and a Vault-compatible economy provider as requirements. Placing a bounty withdraws money through Vault at once, and the killer receives the payout through it. Without an economy plugin, bounties cannot be paid.

Where does BetterBounty store bounties?

Bounties are saved in an SQLite database at plugins/BetterBounty/database.db. The plugin writes to it every 15 minutes and again when it disables, so a normal shutdown keeps current data.
