GravesX is a Paper, Spigot, Purpur, and Folia plugin that replaces scattered death drops with a single lootable grave. When a player dies, GravesX spawns a grave block at the death location, or at the nearest safe spot if the original location is unsafe, and stores their items and experience inside it until the grave is opened or broken. The project publishes builds spanning Minecraft 1.16 through the current 1.21.x line, and it continues the original Graves plugin created by Ranull under new maintainer Legoman99573.
Installation
- 1.Download the build matching your server software (Paper, Spigot, Purpur, or Folia) from the GravesX Modrinth project page.
- 2.Drop the jar into the server's plugins folder and start the server once to generate its configuration.
- 3.Configuration files load from /plugins/GravesX; edit grave behavior, timers, and integrations there.
- 4.Restart the server to apply configuration changes.
How graves work
Each grave appears as a physical block with a floating hologram showing the deceased player's name, item and experience count, cause of death, and remaining time before the grave expires. Right-clicking or breaking the grave opens its inventory so the items and experience levels can be recovered. If a death happens somewhere unsafe, such as in lava, GravesX looks for the nearest safe location to place the grave instead.
Permissions and commands
GravesX ships its own command set and permission nodes, documented on the project's GitHub wiki, that let server admins control who can create graves, break open graves belonging to other players, or bypass grave protections entirely. Server owners running a permissions plugin can assign these nodes the same way they manage any other plugin's permissions.
Compatibility
- Runs on Paper, Spigot, Purpur, and Folia; the project notes it is gradually shifting its primary focus toward Paper.
- Server-side only. GravesX is marked client-side unsupported, so players need no client installation.
