BreweryX is a server plugin for Bukkit, Spigot, Paper, Purpur and Folia that replaces vanilla potion making with a slow, multi-step brewing process. It is an actively maintained fork of Brewery, an original plugin more than ten years old. It runs on the server only, so players join with a normal client and install nothing.

Server software and versions

  • Bukkit, Folia, Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.9 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.

How brewing works

Drinks are made in stages: fermenting, distilling and aging in barrels. Spring water and wheat can become a beer, while high-proof liquor gains its character after time in oak barrels. Quality matters. Poorly made drinks carry downsides such as a hangover, and the finest recipes take practice to master.

Drinking has consequences. Drunk players stagger, their chat is distorted, and effects apply. Players who log off drunk wake up at Wakeup Points that admins place around the world. Recipes are fully configurable, including ingredients, properties and the creation process.

What the fork adds

  • A customizable plugin prefix.
  • Full RGB colour support on 1.16 and later.
  • Multi-puke items.
  • Custom ingredients specified by CustomModelData.
  • Support for BreweryX addons, such as extra recipes.
  • Folia support.

Installation

Place the plugin file in the plugins folder and restart the server. If you have not done this before, the guide to installing plugins on a Paper or Spigot server covers it. Default recipes ship in the config, so brewing works straight away, and the wiki details each step.

Commands and permissions

  • /brew help shows the help page.
  • /brew info shows your own drunkenness, or another player's.
  • /brew create makes a brew by command.
  • brewery.user covers everything needed for brewing and is the default.
  • brewery.mod allows maintaining Wakeup Points and logging in while overdrunk.
  • brewery.admin unlocks every command and most bypasses, and defaults to op.

Questions about BreweryX.

4 questions

How do I install BreweryX?

Put the plugin file in the plugins folder of a Bukkit, Spigot, Paper, Purpur or Folia server and restart it. The newest release needs no dependencies. Players do not install anything and join with a normal client. Default recipes work immediately, and the wiki explains how to write your own.

Does BreweryX work on Folia?

Yes. Folia is one of the listed server types, alongside Bukkit, Spigot, Paper and Purpur, and the creators name Folia support as one of the additions over the original Brewery. The newest release covers Minecraft 1.9 to 26.2 on each of them.

What is the difference between Brewery and BreweryX?

BreweryX is a maintained fork of the original Brewery, which is now inactive. It adds a custom prefix, full RGB colours on 1.16 and later, multi-puke items, CustomModelData ingredients, addon support and Folia support, and it offers support through its Discord.

Which permissions does BreweryX use?

Three main nodes exist. brewery.user grants everything needed for brewing and is on by default. brewery.mod allows Wakeup Point maintenance and login while overdrunk. brewery.admin gives every command and most bypasses, and defaults to op.
