Announcement is an announcement plugin for Minecraft servers running Paper, Folia, Purpur or Spigot. It broadcasts a list of messages to chat on a timer and adds a command for sending one-off messages. It runs on the server only, so players join with a normal client and install nothing.

Server software and versions

  • Folia, Paper and Purpur: Minecraft 1.18 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Spigot: Minecraft 1.18 to 1.21.10. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it does

The plugin is deliberately small. You write your messages in config.yml, set a delay, and it rotates through them.

  • Customizable announcements, defined as a list in config.yml.
  • A customizable template that surrounds each announcement.
  • MiniMessage support for colours and formatting, plus a new MiniMessage format tag added by the plugin.
  • A command to announce custom messages, named announcement by default.
  • Dynamic text substitution, which is listed as work in progress.

Configuration and permissions

Three settings control the rotation. Delay is the time between announcements, in seconds. When ordered is true, announcements are sent in order. Setting broadcast to true makes the console receive announcements too.

The command is configurable (name, description, usage) and is gated by the permission node announcement.use. Give that node only to staff who should be able to push messages to everyone.

Installation

Drop the plugin file into the plugins folder of your server and restart. Use the example config.yml layout and replace the sample lines with your own messages. If you have not set up plugins before, follow how to install plugins on a Minecraft server.

Questions about Announcement.

4 questions

How do I install the Announcement plugin?

Place the plugin file in the plugins folder of your Paper, Folia, Purpur or Spigot server and restart it. Then set your own announcements list and delay value in config.yml. The example config shows the broadcast, ordered and delay settings, the template, and the list of announcements to replace.

Does Announcement work on Folia?

Yes. Folia is one of the four server software options the plugin lists builds for, alongside Paper, Purpur and Spigot. Check the version list on this page for the Minecraft range that each one covers.

What permission does the announcement command need?

The command uses the permission node announcement.use by default. Grant it through your permissions plugin to staff who should be able to send custom messages. The command name, description and usage are all editable in config.yml.

Do players need to install Announcement?

No. It is a server-side plugin, and a client install is not supported. Players join with a normal client.
