Pl3xMap is a server-side plugin that renders a live, browser-viewable map of a Minecraft world using the game's own flat, top-down look rather than a stylized 3D render. It targets Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, and Spigot, with separate Fabric and Quilt builds for modded servers, and it is licensed under MIT. The current 26.2 build, published July 29, 2026, covers every one of those platforms.

Platform and version support

Pl3xMap ships one active codebase across most of its platforms, so Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Folia, Fabric, and Quilt all reach the same current version. Forge is the exception: its last build shipped in October 2023 and never moved past 1.20.1, so a Forge server is stuck three major releases behind.

  • Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Folia: current through 26.2 (July 29, 2026)
  • Fabric and Quilt (modded servers, needs Fabric API): current through 26.2 (July 29, 2026)
  • Forge: stopped at 1.20.1, last published October 24, 2023

Installing Pl3xMap on Paper, Purpur, and Spigot

  1. 1.Download the JAR that matches the server platform from the Modrinth downloads page.
  2. 2.Drop it into the plugins folder (or mods, on a Fabric or Quilt server) and restart the server so the default config and web files generate.
  3. 3.Edit config.yml to set the port, which worlds render, and player marker options, then restart again for changes to apply.
  4. 4.Open http://<server-ip>:<port> in a browser. The map starts empty and fills in as the first render finishes, which can take a few minutes.

How Pl3xMap compares to Dynmap, BlueMap, and squareMap

These four live-map plugins solve the same problem in different ways, and the trade-offs are mostly about rendering style, render speed, and how many platforms each one reaches. Dynmap is the oldest of the group: a 2D layered map with an in-browser chat overlay and years of third-party add-ons, running on Bukkit, Paper, and Spigot plus separate Forge and Fabric builds. BlueMap renders a tiltable 3D view of the world instead of a flat map, at the cost of a heavier initial render. Pl3xMap and squareMap both take the lighter path: a flat, vanilla-style top-down view with render times measured in minutes rather than hours, though neither offers BlueMap's 3D perspective or Dynmap's chat overlay.

  • Rendering style: Pl3xMap and squareMap use a flat, vanilla-accurate top-down view; BlueMap renders a tiltable 3D scene; Dynmap uses a layered 2D map with a chat overlay.
  • Render speed: Pl3xMap and squareMap are both built around fast incremental renders; BlueMap's initial render is the heaviest of the four because of its 3D geometry.
  • Platform breadth: Pl3xMap reaches Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Folia, Fabric, and Quilt on its current build, with Forge stuck on 1.20.1; Dynmap keeps separate current Forge and Fabric builds alongside Bukkit, Paper, and Spigot.

Dependencies and commands

The Fabric build requires Fabric API; the Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, Spigot, and Folia builds have no external plugin dependency. Every command sits under /map (hide, show, fullrender, reload, and more) and defaults to op-only permissions; Pl3xMap does not hook into LuckPerms or any other permissions plugin for finer-grained control.

Questions about Pl3xMap.

5 questions

How do I install Pl3xMap?

Download the JAR matching the server platform from the Modrinth page, place it in the plugins folder (mods for Fabric or Quilt), and restart the server. Config and web files generate automatically on first boot, then open the server's IP with the configured port in a browser.

Which Minecraft version does Pl3xMap support?

Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Folia, Fabric, and Quilt are all current through 26.2, published July 29, 2026. The Forge build is the exception: it stopped at 1.20.1 in October 2023 and has not been updated since.

How does Pl3xMap compare to Dynmap, BlueMap, and squareMap?

Pl3xMap and squareMap both render a flat, vanilla-style map with fast render times. BlueMap trades that speed for a tiltable 3D view, and Dynmap adds an in-browser chat overlay plus a large library of third-party add-ons, at the cost of being the oldest codebase of the four.

Does Pl3xMap work on free hosts like Aternos?

Not reliably. Pl3xMap serves its map from its own web port, 8080 by default, which needs to be opened separately from the main server port. Most free and shared hosts only provide FTP or SFTP access and do not expose an extra port for this.

Does Pl3xMap need Fabric API or a permissions plugin?

Only the Fabric build needs Fabric API as a dependency. The Bukkit, Paper, Purpur, Spigot, and Folia builds need nothing extra. Every Pl3xMap command defaults to op-only permissions; the plugin does not integrate with LuckPerms or similar permissions plugins.
