PowerGems is a server-side plugin for Paper, Purpur and Spigot that hands every player a custom gem the first time they join. Each gem carries its own ability, and the whole system is meant to be tuned by the server owner. Only the server needs it, so players join with an unmodified setup.
Server software and versions
- Paper: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.19.4 to 26.1.2 require SealLib.
- Purpur: Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.20.1 to 26.1.2 require SealLib.
- Spigot: Minecraft 1.19.4 to 1.21.9. The newest build requires SealLib; some builds for 1.19.4 to 1.21.4 need no dependencies.
How the gems work
New players receive a gem on first join, and every gem has a distinct ability. The full ability list and the default crafting recipes sit on the plugin's wiki. The recipes are defaults, and they can and should be edited to suit your server.
ISeal ships PowerGems with an API, so addon developers can register gems of their own. Text is fully translatable too. Several languages come bundled, and you can add another by creating a file in /plugins/PowerGems/languages named Messages_xx_XX.properties, then setting it as the language file in the configuration.
Installing and tuning
- 1.Place the plugin file in the plugins folder of your server. The plugin install guide covers the basics.
- 2.Restart the server so the plugin loads.
- 3.Adjust recipes if the wiki defaults do not fit your server.
Resource packs and Bedrock players
Resource packs for the gems come in three styles, named Default, High quality and Magic. Bedrock is not officially supported and no Bedrock pack exists, so players joining through Geyser may get hit-or-miss results.
Questions about PowerGems.
4 questions
Does PowerGems need to be configured?
Yes, at least lightly. The plugin needs some configuration, cooldowns and such, to be balanced. Default recipes exist, but they can and should be edited to suit your server. On a well-configured server, no single gem should stand out as the obvious pick.
Can I add my own gems to PowerGems?
Yes. PowerGems exposes an API that lets developers register additional gems through addons. The wiki documents how to use it. Abilities from the built-in set are listed there as well, which helps when planning something new.
How do I change the language in PowerGems?
Many languages come built in. To add another, create a file in /plugins/PowerGems/languages following the pattern Messages_xx_XX.properties, with two lowercase letters then two uppercase letters. Then set that file as the language file in the plugin's configuration.
Does PowerGems work for Bedrock players?
Not officially. There is no Bedrock resource pack, and compatibility through Geyser can be hit or miss. PowerGems is built for Paper, Purpur and Spigot servers, so expect mixed results for Bedrock players and test before opening your server to them.
