LifeWars is a lifesteal plugin for Bukkit, Spigot, Paper and Purpur servers, built by MilaMC and Vitaxses. It adds a heart economy, elimination and revival to survival play, with more than 25 configuration options. It runs on the server only, so players join with an unmodified install.

Server software and versions

  • Bukkit and Spigot: Minecraft 1.17 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Paper: Minecraft 1.14 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Purpur: Minecraft 1.21.4 to 1.21.11. The newest build needs no dependencies.

How the lifesteal system works

Hearts are the core item. Players can craft them, give health to another player, equip them, or use them as an ingredient in the revive recipe. A player who reaches the configured elimination condition enters the LifeWars banned list, which is stored in a dedicated BannedPlayers.yml file. Ban and kick handling is automatic, and offline players are covered.

Reviving works through a crafted item. Rename it to the eliminated player's name, then right-click. If that player is eliminated, they return with the configured revive health. In the default config the item is a book.

Installation and first setup

Drop the plugin file into the plugins folder and restart, as covered in how to install plugins on a server. The newest release needs no other plugins. Edit config.yml afterwards. Comments in the file explain each setting.

  • Gameplay values such as maxHealth (40 in the sample config), reviveHealth (8) and dropHeartsIfMax.
  • Feature toggles for reviving, heart use and the withdraw command.
  • Item names, lore and messages, plus heartItemModel and CustomModelData so a resource pack can reskin the Heart.
  • Heart and revive recipe layouts, which can also be changed in-game with the recipe editor.

Commands and permissions

Most commands are for admins. They cover admin revive, eliminate, set health, reloading and editing the config, spawning LifeWars items and recipe editing. The permission nodes are listed below.

  • LifeWars.adminrevive.use
  • LifeWars.eliminate.use
  • LifeWars.sethealth.use
  • LifeWars.reloadconfig.use
  • LifeWars.EditConfig.use
  • LifeWars.adminspawnitem.use

Questions about LifeWars.

3 questions

Does LifeWars need any other plugins?

No. The newest release lists no dependencies on Bukkit, Spigot, Paper or Purpur. You add the plugin file to the plugins folder, restart, and edit config.yml. Players install nothing, because the plugin runs only on the server.

How do I revive an eliminated player in LifeWars?

Craft the revive item, rename it to the eliminated player's name, then right-click while holding it. If that player is eliminated, they are unbanned and return with the configured revive health. Admins can also use the adminrevive command.

Can I change the heart and revive recipes?

Yes. Recipes are configurable in config.yml, and a recipe editor lets admins change them in-game without touching the file. Custom recipes, heart recipes and revive recipes can each be switched on or off separately.
