StackMob is a Paper plugin that merges mobs into one stacked entity, cutting entity load without wrecking farms. It also has releases for Folia, Purpur, Bukkit and Spigot, though only Paper still receives updates. It runs on the server side only, and players join as usual.
Server software and versions
- Paper: Minecraft 1.16 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Folia and Purpur: Minecraft 1.16 to 1.21.4, builds stopped after February 2025. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Bukkit: Minecraft 1.16 to 1.21, builds stopped after July 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- Spigot: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 1.21, builds stopped after July 2024. The newest build needs no dependencies.
How stacking works
Where thirty sheep once stood, one entity now carries a count. The creator pitches the plugin as targeted: aim it at the worst lag offenders and leave everything else alone. A "wait to stack" delay gives mobs a short period after spawning before they merge, so grinders do not break from entities fusing mid-air.
When a stack takes damage, one of four death methods decides what happens: a single mob dies, the whole stack dies, a random amount dies, or the amount depends on the damage dealt. Drops, experience points and player stats are multiplied on stack death.
What you can configure
- Blacklist spawn reasons, entity types or worlds so they never stack.
- Stack mobs only after they have moved.
- Hide the stack nametag until a player is close or has a clear line of sight.
- Keep custom names intact, since a second tag is sent through packets.
- Preserve entity traits such as sheep colours, age and love mode.
- Choose event behaviour, such as shearing one sheep or the whole stack at once.
- Stop stacks from targeting players. Most options can be set per entity type.
Installation
- 1.Stop the server and open its plugins folder. The plugin installation guide covers the basics.
- 2.Place the StackMob file in that folder.
- 3.Restart the server.
Compatibility and trade-offs
StackMob supports MythicMobs, MyPet, Jobs, ClearLagg and McMMO, plus Citizens and WorldGuard. WorldGuard gains a custom entity-stacking flag, so you can switch stacking on or off per region. The newest release needs no other plugin.
Questions about StackMob.
4 questions
How do I install StackMob?
Stop your server, place the plugin file in its plugins folder, then restart the server. Players need nothing extra and join as usual. StackMob runs on the server side only, and it offers blacklists for spawn reasons, entity types and worlds, so you can keep chosen mobs from stacking.
Does StackMob work on Folia?
Folia releases exist, but they stopped in early 2025 while Paper releases continued. If you run Folia on a recent Minecraft release, you will not find a matching StackMob file. Paper is the actively updated target.
Will StackMob break my mob grinders?
It is designed not to. A wait-to-stack delay stops mobs merging mid-air, and you can blacklist spawn reasons, entity types or worlds. The README still warns that vanilla behaviour cannot always be preserved, so test your farms.
Is StackMob a Forge or Fabric mod?
No. StackMob is a server plugin, and its builds target Paper, Folia, Purpur, Bukkit and Spigot. It runs on the server side only, so players install nothing and join as usual. Paper is the one target that still receives updates, while builds for the other four have stopped.
