TotemGuard is an anticheat plugin for Paper, Folia and Purpur that detects players using AutoTotem. It runs on the server only, so players join with a normal client and install nothing. Spigot and CraftBukkit are not supported.

Server software and versions

  • Folia, Paper and Purpur: Minecraft 1.16 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.16.5 to 1.21.10 require PacketEvents.

What it checks

Checks run asynchronously to keep the impact on tick time low. They cover AutoTotem click timing and statistical patterns, plus packet-level checks such as banned client brands. Almost every setting can be changed at runtime. Beyond detection, the plugin offers:

  • MySQL and SQLite storage for logs.
  • Discord webhooks for alerts and punishments.
  • Alerts shared across several servers through plugin messaging or Redis.
  • Automatic exemption of Bedrock players, to avoid false positives.
  • A bypass permission and a startup update checker.

Installation

  1. 1.If the build you pick lists it, install PacketEvents first. The newest release does not need it.
  2. 2.Place the plugin file in the plugins folder, following the steps in how to install plugins on a Paper or Spigot server.
  3. 3.Restart the server, then edit config.yml to fit your rules.
  4. 4.Apply changes with /totemguard reload.

Commands and permissions

The main command is /totemguard, or /tg for short. Operators hold every permission by default except TotemGuard.Debug. Other nodes can be handed out one by one, or all at once with TotemGuard.*.

  • /totemguard alerts toggles alerts for yourself or another player.
  • /totemguard check tests a player for AutoTotem.
  • /totemguard profile, stats and top show player profiles, plugin statistics and the ten worst violators.
  • /totemguard track follows a player, and manualban bans one by hand.
  • /totemguard clearlogs and the database trim and clear commands manage stored data.
  • TotemGuard.Staff bundles the check, alerts and profile permissions for moderators.

Questions about TotemGuard.

4 questions

Does TotemGuard work on Folia?

Yes. Folia is a listed target alongside Paper and Purpur, and the plugin supports Folia's regionized multithreading. Spigot and CraftBukkit are not supported, so a server on either needs to move to Paper or one of its forks first.

Does TotemGuard flag Bedrock players?

No. It automatically ignores Bedrock Edition players to prevent false positives.

Does TotemGuard slow down my server?

Its operations run asynchronously to minimise the impact on server performance. That is the creator's design goal, not a measured figure. A database such as MySQL or SQLite stores the logs, so check how large they grow on busy servers.

Can I exempt staff from TotemGuard checks?

Yes. Give them the TotemGuard.Bypass permission and their actions are no longer checked. Operators hold most TotemGuard permissions by default, so grant bypass deliberately and test with a normal account.
