Fresh Animations is a Java Edition resource pack by FreshLX that gives new models and animations to Minecraft mobs while preserving the default 16x textures and overall vanilla aesthetic. Nearly every common and neutral creature now moves with more weight, subtlety, and personality, from swaying zombie arms to expressive villager faces. The pack is still receiving updates, with over 80 mobs animated and more planned.

Compatibility And Requirements

  • Platform: Java Edition only. No Bedrock port is available or planned.
  • Resolution: 16x. The pack does not change texture resolution; it adds custom entity models and animations.
  • Minecraft versions: 1.13.2 through 1.21.11, with most intermediate releases also supported by current files.
  • Required companion tools: OptiFine with Custom Entity Models enabled, or Entity Model Features (EMF) and Entity Texture Features (ETF) as an alternative.

What The Pack Changes

Fresh Animations touches almost every animated mob category in the game. Villagers and illagers gain expressive gestures. Zombies, skeletons, and their variants walk and attack with more natural motion. Farm animals, sea creatures, and pets each receive unique idle and movement cycles. Nether mobs like piglins, hoglins, and striders get the same treatment. Even smaller creatures such as bats, bees, axolotls, and allay have updated animations.

A few mobs are not animated yet: rabbits, polar bears, pandas, armadillos, camels, the breeze, copper golem, creaking, warden, wither, and ender dragon remain on the creator's roadmap for future releases.

What It Does Not Cover

  • Textures and blocks: this pack leaves all block, item, and UI textures unchanged.
  • Player animations: player model changes are not included in the main pack. A player add-on is available separately through the creator's Ko-fi.
  • Full compatibility with other entity model packs: resource packs that also ship custom entity models will conflict with Fresh Animations. Texture-only packs usually work without issues.
  • Performance: the pack does not target performance improvements or optimizations.

Installation

  1. 1.Install OptiFine for your Minecraft version, or install Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features on your preferred mod loader.
  2. 2.Download Fresh Animations from the Modrinth project page.
  3. 3.Place the downloaded ZIP in the resourcepacks folder. Do not extract it.
  4. 4.In the game's Resource Packs menu, move Fresh Animations above any other resource packs in the active list.
  5. 5.If using OptiFine, confirm Video Settings > Quality > Custom Entity Models is set to ON.
  6. 6.If mobs appear with purple or black textures after loading the pack, restart the game. This is a known OptiFine loading quirk, not a broken file.

Extensions And Add-Ons

Fresh Animations Extensions is a companion pack on Modrinth that adds extra features on top of the base animations. Load extensions above Fresh Animations in the resource pack list. A player animation add-on is also in development, available as early access through the creator's Ko-fi.

Questions about this entry.

  • Does Fresh Animations work without OptiFine?

It needs OptiFine's Custom Entity Models feature or the EMF and ETF mods as an alternative. Without one of those, mobs will show broken textures and the animations will not work.

  • Is there a Bedrock Edition version?

No. The creator has stated that a Bedrock port would require rebuilding the pack from scratch, and there are no current plans to do so.

  • Does it work with other resource packs?

Texture-only resource packs usually work alongside Fresh Animations without issues. Packs that include their own entity models will conflict and override the Fresh Animations models. Some community-made compatibility patches exist on CurseForge and Modrinth.
