Sunbathing Godrays

A small Java resource pack that draws light shafts from the sun and the moon. It leans on Polytone's post shader support rather than a separate shader loader.

Sunbathing Godrays is a Java resource pack by MehVahdJukaar that adds godrays to the sun and the moon. The effect is simple screen-space light shafts, drawn through vanilla post shaders. It covers 1.21 to 26.2 and runs on the player's own machine only.

What changes visually

Light now streaks out from the sun across the sky, and the moon gets the same treatment at night.

  • Sun and moon godrays as a screen-space effect
  • Runs on vanilla post shaders, with no separate shader loader named
  • Java only, installed on the player's machine

How to install Sunbathing Godrays

  1. 1.Install Polytone.
  2. 2.Get the pack .zip from Modrinth and place it in the resourcepacks folder (Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder).
  3. 3.Move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
  4. 4.Load a world and look toward the sun or moon.

The general steps are in our resource pack install guide. A pack made for another release can still load, but it shows an incompatibility warning.

Known limitations

The creator describes this as a proof of concept for what Polytone post shaders can do, so expect a narrow feature set: godrays and nothing else. It is also not a full lighting overhaul, and multiplayer hosts do not need it.

Questions about Sunbathing Godrays.

3 questions

Does Sunbathing Godrays need Polytone?

Yes. The pack requires Polytone, which supplies the post shader support the godrays work through. Polytone is a separate project, so add it alongside the pack before you expect the sun and moon rays to appear in your world.

Does Sunbathing Godrays work on Bedrock?

No. It is a Java resource pack, hosted on Modrinth, which carries Java content. Bedrock uses a different pack format, and nothing in the pack's listing points to a Bedrock release.

How do I install Sunbathing Godrays?

Put the pack .zip in the resourcepacks folder, found through Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder. Then move it to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen. Make sure Polytone is already installed, since the effect depends on it.
