Torturable Healthbars

Mobs show their remaining health through changing textures and injuries, so no bar floats above their heads. It covers hostile mobs first, with 500+ variants.

Torturable Healthbars is a 16x Java resource pack that swaps floating health bars for visible injuries. A mob's texture changes as its health drops, with more than 500 variants across hostile mobs and growing coverage of neutral and passive ones. It is a player-side pack and is not supported on a dedicated host.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.18 to 26.2. The newest build requires [[EMF] Entity Model Features](/mods/entity-model-features) and [ETF] Entity Texture Features, optionally ImmediatelyFast, Animatica and Respackopts; some builds for 1.21 to 1.21.11 require [[EMF] Entity Model Features](/mods/entity-model-features), ImmediatelyFast and [ETF] Entity Texture Features; some builds for 1.21 to 1.21.5 need no dependencies; some builds for 1.18 to 1.21 need no dependencies.

What changes visually

The idea is to read a fight without a bar breaking the immersion. Zombies, for example, get a different texture for every wooden sword swing, so you can count how many hits remain. Some mobs also show animated blood.

  • Hostile mobs are the focus, with injury stages tied to health.
  • The 2.4 update added new armor, horse armor, nautili, copper golems and happy ghasts, and remade creeper, ghast, blaze, skeleton and zombie models.
  • Chipped armor and shields add a small PvP cue.
  • A separate variant of the pack exists for Fresh Animations users.

Options and companion mods

Respackopts is optional and adds in-pack toggles: green bleed, the Ills Kills addon, the Humanoids and Pacifics addons that extend the effect to villagers and passive mobs, and the PvP armor and shield damage.

How to install Torturable Healthbars

  1. 1.Install the companion mods named for your release, then open the Modrinth page and take the file that matches your Java release.
  2. 2.Put the .zip in the resourcepacks folder (Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder).
  3. 3.Move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
  4. 4.If a pack built for another release still loads, expect an incompatibility warning.

New updates now arrive as small x.y.z releases, each covering one or two mobs, so the list of finished mobs keeps growing. Our install guide covers the general steps.

Questions about Torturable Healthbars.

4 questions

How does Torturable Healthbars show mob health?

It changes each mob's texture based on its remaining health, giving more than 500 variants overall. Some mobs also have animated blood. Because the stages follow health, you can judge how many more hits a mob needs, for example one texture per wooden sword swing on zombies.

Does Torturable Healthbars work with Epic Combat?

No. The creator lists Epic Combat as a known incompatibility and says the fault lies with that mod, so there is nothing the pack can do about it.

Can I turn off parts of Torturable Healthbars?

Yes, through the optional Respackopts mod. It toggles addons such as green bleed, Ills Kills, and the Humanoids and Pacifics options that add the effect to villagers and passive mobs. The chipped armor and shield effects for PvP can also be switched off.

Is Torturable Healthbars available for Bedrock?

This page covers the Java pack only, hosted on Modrinth. Bedrock uses a different pack format, so the Java file will not load there. Check the creator's page for any separate Bedrock release.
