Dark Fantasy Shader is a dark, cinematic shader pack for Minecraft Java, inspired by Dark Souls, Elden Ring and Blasphemous. It runs on Iris and OptiFine and only changes the player's own screen, so a multiplayer host needs nothing installed.

Shader loaders and versions

  • Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 26.1 to 26.3.

Atmosphere and effects

The pack pushes the world toward gloom. Fog thickens during storms, nights turn cold and blue, and torches become the warm point of the frame. Color grading does the rest, crushing blacks and pulling saturation down.

  • Atmospheric fog that gets heavier in storms
  • Blue-tinted nights with subtle ambient light
  • Warm orange glow from torches
  • Animated storm clouds drifting with the wind
  • Screen-space rain streaks and atmospheric mist
  • Filmic grading with reduced saturation and subtle crimson highlights
  • A soft vignette that darkens the screen edges

Installation

You need Iris or OptiFine installed first. If that is new to you, the shader install guide covers the loader step.

  1. 1.Download the pack's .zip from Modrinth and leave it zipped.
  2. 2.Place it in the shaderpacks folder.
  3. 3.Open Video Settings, then Shader Packs (in Iris), and select Dark Fantasy Shader.

If the pack does not appear or the screen stays vanilla, the shader troubleshooting guide lists the usual causes. For a similar mood from another author, see Realistic Dark.

Questions about Dark Fantasy Shader.

4 questions

How do I install Dark Fantasy Shader?

Install Iris or OptiFine, then place the shader's .zip file in the shaderpacks folder without unpacking it. Launch Minecraft Java, open Video Settings, choose Shader Packs, and select Dark Fantasy Shader. Iris users find the same menu under Video Settings.

Does Dark Fantasy Shader work on Bedrock?

No. Dark Fantasy Shader is built for Java and needs Iris or OptiFine, and neither of those runs on Bedrock. Modrinth hosts Java content, while Bedrock uses a different format, so this pack will not load there. Bedrock players need a shader made in their own format.

Is Dark Fantasy Shader good for low-end PCs?

Modrinth lists low among the pack's categories, beside fantasy and atmosphere. That is a catalogue label, not a hardware promise, so frame rates still depend on your graphics card, resolution and loader. No frame-rate figures are given, so try it on your own setup and adjust from there.

Does Dark Fantasy Shader need anything on a server?

No. The shader must be installed on the player's own machine, and a server does not support it, so nothing goes on the host. Each player installs Iris or OptiFine and the shader themselves, and the look applies only to that player's screen.
